The Poppy Appeal for 2014 is rapidly approaching, in this the year we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War and the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

Last year the Poppy Appeal collected over £56,000 in Wrexham to support the service men and women, past and present and their families.

On Saturday 25th October Wrexham Poppy Appeal will be launched by the Mayor of Wrexham and the Royal British Legion Riders.

This year the Riders will meet the Mayor at the Guildhall before they lay a wreath at the RWF memorial in Wrexham and to mark the centenary of the outbreak of WW1, they will also visit towns across North Wales and lay wreaths at other local memorials.

On Sunday 26th, the Riders will visit the oldest Poppy Appeal Organiser in the country, who himself lives in North Wales and who has just turned 100.

The town will again be decorated in the now-traditional fashion of poppies on the lamp posts and a huge poppy will be erected on the Guildhall.

Please contact your local Poppy Appeal Organiser, Dave Hylands at [email protected] if you would like volunteer to help with this years Poppy Appeal.
