Works to transform Wrexham’s largest indoor market into an Arts and Cultural Hub has taken its first steps with ‘Cafe in the Corner’ relocating to a new premises in the building.

The cafe, which previously was situated near the entrance just off the Market Street car park, celebrated the grand opening of its new home in the South Mall of the People’s Market this morning.

‘Cafe in the Corner’, which retains its 24 covers, has been in the market for almost four years.

The costs of the move has been funded as part of the £5 million regeneration programme for the People’s Market / Oriel Wrecsam. The move of the cafe is one of the first elements to take place ahead of the development.

The move means the cafe will remain open during the building phase and the owner is now in his permanent position.

‘Cafe in the Corner’ was officially opened by the Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr John Pritchard this morning.

Speaking about the move, Kevin Dipple, Cafe Owner, said: “It’s a new beginning for us. We love being a part of the People’s Market and this move makes sense.

“We will continue to trade throughout the construction period and look forward to welcoming customers old and new.”

The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr John Pritchard, said he was “delighted to be able to open the cafe and wished Kevin every success for the future”

Works to regenerate the building are due to begin early in 2017 and the market will continue to trade throughout the development period.

It is anticipated the People’s Market / Oriel Wrecsam development will be complete in 2018.
