A sixteen year old business student celebrated the launch of his t-shirt range over the weekend.

Tom Pitman, who studies BTEC Business at Yale College launched his custom ’96’ range online on Saturday.

The idea behind the brand began last year after a guest speaker at college told the students about his own t-shirt business. Consisting of different colour t-shirts, Tom began production of the range started last October with money he had saved up.

Tom said: “I came up with loads of different names at first, but eventually chose the year I was born in.

“Before college I wanted to do graphic design. The idea behind the 96 logo came after experimenting with different designs on the computer.”

Since completing the designs last month, Tom has generated a lot of local interest on Facebook and Twitter.

Along with support from his family and friends, members of the Wrexham football team have backed Tom, with Wrexham captain Dean Keates and ex Wrexham player Lee Jones tweeting pictures of themselves wearing the shirts.

The Wrexham legends team will be promoting the shirt before the Soapstar / Soccerstar match later on this month.

“I didn’t expect all the support at first, I was really surprised.” said Tom.

“It’s all been down to Twitter really. At first I didn’t really think of promoters, but I didn’t realise I’d get such big names.

“I didn’t expect them to say yes.”

Interest has also been shown by Desparate Scousewives star Jaiden Micheal and singer Kameelion who will wear the 96 brand on his upcoming tour.

Tom aims to expand on the 96 brand, and already has plans to begin work on hoodies and hats.

“I would like my own business eventually,” said Tom, “For now I would like to carry this on and see how it goes.”
