Brymbo Community Council Back Skatepark Proposals
Brymbo Community Council have backed proposals for a skate park to be constructed in the village.
Brymbo Play Association which aims to secure grant funding for the facility have raised over £5000 in less than 12 months to use as match funding for a larger grants application.
They wrote to Brymbo Community Council asking whether they would fund future maintenance of the facility and consider a small donation to the group.
The group have had the backing of local Councillor Paul Rogers and are working with Wrexham County Borough Council who have submitted a planning application for a skate park to be sited at Cheshire View playing fields. The facility will be located so that youth football clubs will still be able to use the field and the former BMX track will be leveled
During the debate Chairman Councillor Ken Monti and County Borough Councillor Paul Rogers commented on the hard work of volunteers who had raised a large amount of money through several fundraising events in such a short period of time.
Councillors unanimously agreed to fund the future maintenance of the proposed skate park and also to a £500 donation to the group.
Councillor Paul Rogers said he was pleased the project had the support of the Community Council and hopes if grant funding can be secured that it will be a flagship scheme.
“I am very pleased the Community Council have decided to back this exciting project and would like to thank everyone for their efforts to date in particular the volunteers who have worked extremely hard in recent months to get to where we are today”
“We must now wait for planning permission and hope to submit a bid for grant funding in the near future to develop a skate park at Cheshire View playing field and apply for grant funding to construct the facility.”
“If we are successful then this has the potential to become the flagship skate park in Wrexham.”
Last month Wrexham.com reported on the planning application for the skate park. You can read our report here..
