Two young girls from North Wales are both sporting sleek new bobs after chopping off their very long locks for charity.

Big hearted sisters, Kayla (7) and Ella Young (4) from Llay, took the bold leap to have their hair cut off to help children with cancer and raised more than £800 for a local Hospice in the process.

The sisters had been growing their hair all year with aim of donating it to the Little Princess Trust, which makes real wigs for children suffering hair loss from cancer treatment. However, Mum Lynn thought it would also be a good sponsorship opportunity for a local charity

Mum and daughters teamed up to research their options, and that’s when they came across Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham.

Each year, the Hospice helps more than 5,000 people living with life-limiting illnesses in the North Wales and border areas. By providing comfort, support and specialist services in patients’ homes, out in the community and at their Inpatient and Daycare Units in Wrexham, the Hospice enable families to share precious moments when they are needed most.

Kayla and Ella felt it would be a worthy cause for their sponsorship money and approached The Studio in Rhosddu for help in taking the plunge.

Hairdresser, Natalie Louise Edwards formed two long plaits for Kayla and Ella and got her scissors ready. An hour later and the girls were feeling a lot lighter with a whopping 24 inches of hair donated between them.

Mum Lynn and dad Keith said they were really proud of Kayla and Ella’s desire to help children less fortunate than themselves.

“In their eyes, they see it as they have loads of hair that they don’t need and they want to give it to some other little girl that has lost all theirs,” said Lynn. “At first, I thought they were too young, or they would regret it but they haven’t. Now that they have done it, they are really pleased with themselves and love their new look. They like the thought of someone needing their hair and helping other children out.”

It won’t be just Kayla and Ella’s hair being donated as the inspirational youngsters have also raised more than £800 for Nightingale House.

“We decided to raise funds for Nightingale House Hospice as it’s a local charity and we feel that we will see where the money is going and how it is spent. Hospices always do amazing and sometimes thankless work and we thought it would be a really fitting cause for the girls.”

Hospice Fundraiser, Sam Eastwood, said: “It’s amazing what Kayla and Ella’s are doing to help support the Little Princess Trust and also Nightingale House. They had such beautiful long hair and it didn’t bother them at all getting it cut off. They are an inspiration at such a young age. We are very proud to have been a part of their fundraising efforts.”
