Bales Of Hay Deliberately Set Alight Overnight

A fire near to Caego late last night spread a smell of smoke over the town centre, as several bales of hay were set alight.

The fire service were called at 11:16pm to the fire, with several others in touch over ‘strong smells of smoke’ in the hours after.

Ten tonnes of loose hay was set alight, with four compacted bales also on fire.

Four separate locations of hay were set alight, with the fire service believing the cause was deliberate ignition.

A specialist off road fire unit was used at the scene, along with two fire engines.

As readers will be aware via our twitter feed embed, several people were in touch reporting a strong smell of smoke across town, likely due to this large fire.

The fire service were on scene until 1:44am.
