Awards Ceremony Celebrates Outstanding Success of Local Learners

The ‘outstanding success’ and achievements of students at Coleg Cambria was celebrated recently at a glittering awards ceremony.

Host of BBC One’s Final Score, Jason Mohammad, took some time out of his busy schedule to join students, staff and special guests at Coleg Cambria to celebrate Further Education and work based learners from across the institution’s five sites at Deeside, Llysfasi, Northop, Bersham Road and Yale.

Jason Mohammad who also covers Snooker and Rugby for BBC Sport as well as BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 Football Phone in, was a key host at both the Rio Olympics and Euro 2016, and recently spent a year presenting BBC One’s Crimewatch. 

All award winners had individual inspiring stories behind their successes which included attaining high levels of academic achievement, developing skills for employment, succeeding in difficult personal circumstances, balancing college commitments with an abundance of voluntary and community duties, or returning to college for a change of career.

Amongst the winners was Amie Hibbert, 29 from Abergele, who won the prize for Apprentice of the Year and Adult Learner of the Year was awarded to Stacey Williams, 27 from Coedpoeth.

Hair and Beauty student, Charlie Smith, 18, from Deeside was awarded Further Education Student of the Year and A Level student Dhruv Bansal, 18 from Wrexham, won the award for Academic Excellence.

Chief Executive, David Jones OBE said: “Our annual awards ceremony highlights the excellent progress and achievements that so many of our students have made.

“Several of our award winners are now moving on to university, jobs and apprenticeships where they will use the skills and experiences they have developed during their courses.”
