An outline application that could see Penycae Junior school relocating to the rear of the existing Penycae Infants school has been submitted to the council.

It is proposed that a single story building is erected at the back of the current Infants school. Alongside the new building, the application also requests permission to build two playing fields, a multi-use games area and new parking facilities to serve the two schools.

If successful the existing school car park would be relocated 100 metres to prevent any potential danger to pedestrians and vehicles.

Another three sites are in consideration for the development, however due to a number of disadvantages the proposed site was deemed as the ‘only practicable one.’

An accompanying Design and Access Statement says: “Combining the two schools to one site will ensure that parents with more than one child only have to make one journey to school rather than having to visit both schools to deliver or collect their child from school.”

The Design and Access Statement also notes that: “The proposal is in outline only at this time but the detailed plans will provide for disabled access and make provision for parents and children with a variety of physical handicaps.”
