Appeal to Trace Rogue Trader Suspects in Chirk
Police are appealing for information on two suspected rogue traders seen delivering leaflets for roofing works in the Chirk area earlier this week.
The appeal comes off the back of a nationwide crackdown on rogue traders in which police forces joined up with council trading standards teams.
As part of a local operation to coincide with the crackdown a suspicious vehicle in Chirk was seized by police.
Sgt Sue Richards of Eastern Community Safety Department said; “We delivered awareness packs to identified areas of previous door step crime and visited former victims. This gave us the opportunity to reassure them and ensure they had adequate security measures in place.
“As part of the operation a white Peugeot van was spotted in Crogen, Chirk on Wednesday May 10 at 11.55am with two males on board delivering leaflets for roofing work.
“Both made off from police, leaving the vehicle behind which we seized as it was uninsured.
“We suspect these males were rogue traders targeting vulnerable residents.
“Both were wearing dark blue fleece jackets and spoke with Irish accents. If you have any information about this incident call 101 quoting reference V066809.
“I would urge the public to continue reporting suspicious cold callers to Trading Standards and the police and to be vigilant on behalf of vulnerable and elderly family members and neighbours.”
Information on genuine traders can be obtained from your local Trading Standards department under the ‘Buy with confidence scheme’.
