An appeal for witnesses has been launched after a group of youths verbally abused and threatened a train driver in Wrexham on the weekend.

On Saturday evening officers from British Transport Police were called to a report of youths trespassing on the line at Wrexham station at 7:45pm on Saturday evening.

Upon arrival officers discovered that a train driver who had challenged the youths, had been verbally abused and threatened by a member of the group.

The incident caused long delays and cancellations between Wrexham Central and Bidston for much of Saturday evening – with initial reports stating that the train driver had been assaulted and “unfit to carry out safety critical duties”.

Officers are now viewing CCTV from the station and speaking to witnesses in an attempt to identify those involved.
