Around 10pm last night we were contacted by several people regarding police activity in Gresford. Sadly the police were responding to a hit and run.

North Wales Police this morning have said they attended Annefield Park in Gresford at 9:25pm due to an ‘road traffic collision’ between a car and a mobility scooter.

Locally it has been reported that the incident was a ‘hit and run’ involving a possibly blue or dark car, with a elderly gentleman taken to hospital after it collided with his mobility scooter.

An appeal for information has been launched on Facebook by the elderly gentleman’s grandson, who is encouraging users to share a picture and information of his grandfather to raise awareness of the situation. The appeal has so far been shared just over 600 times.

It says “Last night Bill (Lollipop Man) Jones was involved in a hit and run incident near the Gresford British Legion / Gresford Park involving a BMW at approximately 9.30 pm.

“Bill was leaving the Gresford British Legion around 9.30 pm on his Motability scooter when a Light Blue / Blue BMW drove from the car park next to Gresford Park and ran down my granddad.”

“He is currently in Wrexham Hospital and fortunately has only sustained minor injuries.”

“Any information that will assist me in finding the scumbag that thinks it is acceptable to run over an 85 year old man and leave him for dead would be greatly appreciated.”

He also says “If anyone knows the two lads that were there and helped my grandad last night please pass on my thanks. Two true gentlemen, I owe them a drink.”

The entrance to Annefield Park is off to the left hand side if you are travelling towards Chester just after you have gone past the cluster of shops.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything to contact them on 101 with reference number P176634.
