Anti-Dog Fouling Operation Launched In Wrexham
An operation targeting dog owners who let their pets foul in public places has recently taken place in Wrexham.
Police and council officers have mounted a hi-viz operation in the Rhos area aimed at dog owners who let their pets foul in public spaces.
The pro-active initiative focuses on educating and where necessary issuing fixed penalty notices for dog owners who fail to pick up their dog’s faeces and refuse to do so when challenged.
It involved all six Rhos-based Police Community Support Officers, Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant, Corey McLeod and enforcement officers from Wrexham County Borough Council.
The operation concentrated on patrolling several notorious dog fouling areas in Rhos, Ponciau, Johnstown, Pant and Penycae from early morning until late afternoon.
PCSO Tim Edwards said: “Many dogs are walked in open spaces such as parks which are used by the general public, including children. It is a serious issue as dog fouling is a health risk.
“The aim of the operation was not simply just to deal with the minority of dog owners who fail to pick up their dog’s mess – it was also to engage with dog owners in general and reassure our communities that we will continue to combat the problem.”
Officers spoke to dog walkers and handed-out leaflets about the dangers of dog mess, the penalty for committing the offence and who they can contact should they witness such an offence.
On the day no penalties were issues. However, several dog walkers were advised and warned.
