Amber Weather Warning Issued With ‘Storm Doris’ Set to Hit Wrexham
Batten down the hatches as the Met Office are forecasting gusts of up to 80mph with the arrival of ‘Storm Doris’.
While parts of the country were yesterday experiencing the tropical highs of 18C, the weather is set to return to what we’ve come to expect for February – with strong winds and heavy rain forecast for Thursday.
The Met Office have placed an ‘Amber’ weather warning in place for much of North Wales – with forecasts currently expecting Storm Doris to bring gusts of up to 70mph-80mph for some parts.
However the strongest winds are expected to be short-lived the Met Office are warning that there may be some ‘damage to structures, interruptions to power supplies and widespread disruption to travel networks are likely, with a danger of injury from flying debris’.
Currently the warning is in place between 6am and 6pm on Thursday – however as usual this could be subject to change over the next few days.
Details released by the Met Office today, state: “Some very strong winds are expected throughout Thursday in association with storm ‘Doris’, with a short period where gusts of 70 to 80 mph are possible.
“A developing area of low pressure is expected to move across the UK on Thursday.
“The exact timing and track of this system remain uncertain but there is potential for a short-lived core of very strong winds to develop. Whilst some disruption is expected outside of this stronger swathe of winds, the amber area looks most likely to see more significant disruption.”
