Almost £440,000 to support Flying Start projects across Wrexham has been announced.

Flying Start is the Welsh Government’s flagship early years programme and the latest funding is aimed at replacing, repairing and improving facilities, helping create the best possible environment for children to learn and play.

Overall, 70 Flying Start projects throughout Wales will share over £5.2 million from this latest announcement.

In Wrexham, over a quarter of a million pounds will be spent improving facilities in Llay. Other local projects include:

  • £10,000 for the Hafod Y Wern office
  • £20,500 for the Ti Ni Family Centre
  • £252,222 to the Llay Childcare Setting – new modular build
  • £12,550 for the Idwal Family Centre
  • £25,200 to Summer Hill Childcare
  • £24,350 to Hill Tots Childcare
  • £15,700 to Cherry Hill Childcare
  • £42,000 to Venture Childcare
  • £9,255 to Bodhyfryd Flying Start
  • £15,664 to Min-Y-Don Flying Start
  • £12,500 to Caego Childcare

Wrexham MS Lesley Griffiths: “Every child, no matter what their background, deserves the best possible start in life and Flying Start creates opportunities for children and their families that otherwise would not have been available.”

“Hundreds of local children benefit from the programme and this additional funding will help ensure local facilities are in the best possible condition.”

Flying Start is child-focused and supports parents and carers to help create the most positive environment for their children’s wellbeing.

The programme offers twelve and a half hours of high quality childcare a week for 2-3 year olds; support for the development of children’s speech, language and communication; parenting support; and an enhanced health visitor service.
