Adult learners at Coleg Cambria have been recognised for their achievements during a week-long celebratory event.

Adult Learners’ Week is the UK’s largest annual festival for learning with the aim to inspire thousands of adults to discover how learning can change their lives, whether it’s those who are looking to gain professional qualifications, individuals wanting to gain new skills to improve their job opportunities or those wanting to try something new.

Martin Davey who is currently undertaking an Apprenticeship at AA Automotive and qualified in NVQ Level 3 Light Vehicle Maintenance at Coleg Cambria said: “I initially joined Coleg Cambria as a mature learner on a Level 1 Motor Vehicle full-time course, I found the first year was quite challenging due to personal circumstances, but have since successfully achieved Level 2 and Level 3. Coming to Coleg Cambria has made me focus, now I am back on my feet.”

Psychiatric Nurse, Nettie Thomas, who studied Access to HE Psychology and GCSE Maths resit said:
“I wanted to be a nurse from the age of 16 but didn’t pass my GCSE Maths at a C or above and actually tried 5 times!  At the age of 30 I completed my Access to HE Psychology course and successfully re-sat my GCSE Maths. Studying with Coleg Cambria gave me the confidence and courage to pursue my dream.”

Apprentice at Airbus UK, Dane Mason who achieve his Level 3 Aeronautical Craft Apprenticeship added: “I was a chef at Airbus, but always wanted to work there within an engineering role. I am a mature learner and this opportunity has been a very positive step for me, I want to give 100% at all times.

“Starting my apprenticeship has been a life changing decision, you get what you put in at Airbus, and Coleg Cambria fully support this. Coleg Cambria have been extremely supportive throughout. I have had prior jobs that I didn’t enjoy, but now at the end of my apprenticeship I will have a full-time job, successful career and feel privileged to work for one of the biggest companies in my local area; the apprenticeship is ideal and now I feel I can follow my dream.”
