A stretch of road in Bangor-on-Dee will remain closed until further notice after a HGV fire.

The A525, between the junction for Whitchurch road and Hollybush lane, has been closed since the early hours of Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to the stretch of road at 2:30am following reports of a fire involving a heavy goods vehicle.

Three North Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wrexham and a crew from Johnstown attended, with firefighters remaining at the scene until late afternoon damping down.

A diversion route was put in place, with Wrexham Council asking motorists to use B5426 Straight Mile, then A528 via Overton and A539 Penley to rejoin the A525 at Eglwys Cross.

The diversion was due to remain in place until the end of Thursday to allow for resurfacing works to take place.

However today Wrexham Council have confirmed that the the A525 will remain closed until further notice due to the possibility of contamination on site.
