A483 / A55 Junction Improvements To Start In April
The planned A483 / A55 junction improvement works that we reported on last year have been given the green light to start in just over four months time.
UPDATE December 1st: There has been a change to the start date – this is now set to start June 2014 and be ongoing to February 2015
Original story:
The Highways Agency said “We will be carrying out works on the A55 to address existing problems with congestion at its junction with the A483, that results in significant queues and delays at peak times. The scheme will also address some of the safety issues and accidents associated with the congestion and existing configuration”
“These works are part of the national pinch point programme. The pinch point programme forms part of the UK Government’s growth initiative, outlined during the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement in November 2011.”
Works will take place between April 2014 and end March 2015 and affect the area around the A55 & A483 junction, known still as the ‘posthouse’ roundabout.
The scheme will provide additional lane capacity but will also try and make the existing carriageway is better utilised, which is claimed to improve traffic flows and reduce delays. The scheme will also apparently offer ‘significant safety benefits’. A new footbridge for shared use by cyclists and pedestrians will be constructed adjacent to the west bridge.
The Pulford roundabout, which is at the north end of the A483, will become a ‘signalised junction’ with traffic lights, with the Rough Hill feed in being also subject to traffic lights.
Last year our report mentioned the total investment being in the region of £8 million, however the project is set to cost £5.3M.
