This evening three incidents caused traffic chaos on the major routes around Wrexham on Friday (10th August) evening.

Lorry Topples Over on Posthouse Roundabout A483 / A55

Around 7:30pm we broke the news on our @wrexham account that another lorry had crashed and overturned on the A55 / A483 ‘posthouse’ roundabout on the outskirts of Chester. Reports said cars were involved in the incident, with police, fire services and ambulances on scene.

As of 8pm the first roundabout after the A483 Wrexham bypass is now closed, with traffic being turned around and diverted through Llay to get onto the A55.

Cliff Ottley-Thistlethwaite from Wrexham got in touch to say he headed to Chester this evening around 10pm and told us “You can’t get past the mini round about at Rossett, Cars & trucks are unable to get onto the A55 from Wrexham. No signs or diversions so people are stopping at the side of the Rossett road (old Wrexham road).”

He said “You can see lots of emergency vehicles & a tow truck for lorries” but mentioned that traffic coming southbound was ok.

UPDATE SATURDAY MORNING:

After a heads up from our friends at Handbridge.com we were passed a statement from Cheshire Fire Service:

“Fire crews were mobilised to a report of road traffic collision on Wrexham Road in Chester where a person was reported to be trapped within a HGV.

On arrival crews found a heavy goods vehicle that had been in collision with a traffic light which had penetrated the cab of the wagon. This was a fatal incident.

Fire crews stood by, awaiting isolation of the power to the traffic light. A small leak of diesel from the tank was also isolated by fire crews.”

A5 / A483 Crash by Chirk:
As of 5pm the A5 / A483 / B5070 Chirk Rd is currently closed by police both ways between Halton Roundabout and Gledrid Roundabout in Halton, because of an accident involving two vehicles. One car is reported to be a MGTF sportscar.

The collision occurred just after 4pm and three ambulances were seen rushing to the scene of the accident.

As of 5:15pm traffic jams are building north and southbound, plus roads in and out of Chirk and the surrounding area.

As of 5:41pm Queues are being reported as far back as Ruabon. Congestion on Southbound A483 to J2, B5426 (Johnstown) and to Gobowen.

Five people have been sent to Wrexham Maelor Hospital with varying injuries.

The Welsh Ambulance service said they took three of those injured.

One man in his 50s and one female in her 20s suffered neck and back pain and one male in his 30s was taken in with concussion. The condition of the other two people is currently unknown.

The Welsh Ambulance Service sent three ambulances to the scene and West Midlands sent two.

North of Wrexham a tyre blow out around the same time on the A483 around Gresford hill is caused big queues between Rossett and Gresford junctions southbound. This incident has now cleared.
