Update 9pm: Highways England has said the road has reopened, adding “All vehicles involved have been recovered, thankfully minor injuries only. Thanks for your patience.”

Original information below…

Traffic is currently at a standstill due to an eight vehicle incident on the A55 eastbound, just after the Posthouse roundabout on the A55.

One driver said: “I managed to avoid the first two smashed cars on the carriageway, not surprised about the mayhem behind.” Adding, “Never see a hailstorm like that when driving, scary.”

One report states the incident could involve many more vehicles that crashed into stopped traffic after the initial incident.

One person in touch says the road conditions were ‘icy’ at the time, meaning it was hard to stop, and a hail storm had just passed through the area.

Police and the ambulance service have been seen attending the incident.

The incident is thought to have taken place around 6:15pm
