668 Less People Claiming Jobseekers Allowance In Wrexham
Unemployment in Wales fell by 6,000 in the 3 months to July 2014 as fewer people claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance, official figures published today show.
The quarterly Labour Market Statistics from the Office for National Statistics also highlighted how youth unemployment in Wales fell by 1,400 in June and by 5,800 during the year.
The Wrexham specific data shows there are 2,554 people in the County Borough claiming Jobseekers Allowance, 3% of the population. This is a drop of 668 compared to year on year figures, with the above graph showing the historic context – the black line being national figures, and the orange the local figures.
The Secretary of State for Wales who was appointed yesterday and now famous for having the first Cabinet beard Stephen Crabb said: “It’s good to see unemployment falling again in Wales. I am also particularly encouraged by the fall in youth unemployment.
“The figures show that there is still more work to be done, so it is essential that we stick to our long-term economic plan which is bearing real fruit now for Wales.”
“As the new Welsh Secretary I am clear that I want every part of Wales to share in this economic recovery.”
The figures however also showed economic inactivity was up 40,000 in Wales compared to the previous quarter.
