Update: The man arrested yesterday has been released on bail until mid-January while enquiries continue.

Original Story:

Officers attached to Operation Pallial have arrested a 52-year-old man from Mold, North Wales, on suspicion of child cruelty and indecent assault.

The offences, against four boys and one girl, are alleged to have taken place between 1981 and 1988, when they were aged 13 or 14 years old.

The man was arrested in the St. Helens area of Merseyside and has been taken to a police station in the vicinity where he will be interviewed.

No further information about the arrest, or the specific nature of the offences being put to him, will be provided. An update will be issued when he is charged, bailed or released from police custody following interview.

Today’s arrest is the eleventh made to date in relation to Operation Pallial.  One person has so far been charged with a large number of serious sexual offences.

Operation Pallial is an investigation led by Keith Bristow, Director General of the National Crime Agency, into recent allegations of historical abuse in the care system in North Wales. The NCA became fully operational on October 7.
