Over £376,000 has been awarded to Wrexham by the Welsh Government to help improve recycling services.

The funding will be used to obtain additional containers for recycling materials.

In total, 10 local authorities across Wales will share £5.75m as part of the Welsh Government’s Collaborative Change Programme (CCP).

The funding allows local authorities to invest in equipment such as recycling vehicles, make improvements to collections and depot facilities and enable them to improve their rates of recycling.

Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths and now Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, said: “Within the past decade or so, attitudes towards recycling have changed with the process becoming normalised and much more of a mainstream activity.”

“Wrexham’s recycling statistics have increased dramatically in recent years and latest figures show Wales not only has the highest municipal recycling rate in the UK, but also one of the very best in Europe.”

“The Labour-led Welsh Government’s aim is for Wales to have the highest national municipal recycling rate in the world with the ultimate ambition of achieving a ‘carbon-neutral’ Wales by 2020.”
