34% turned out to vote in Wrexham for EU election

The turnout in Wrexham for the EU Election was 34%.

The voting verification has taken place over a couple of hours this morning, which does not mean the votes have been counted, but turnout can be calculated.

The formal count takes place on Sunday evening and we will be bringing coverage of that as is normal for elections. The reason for this is that not all EU nations vote at the same time, some will be voting today and over the weekend, but to ensure a fair result all is counted and declared at the same time.

Wales is designated as a ‘region’, and MEPs will be elected in the order listed by their party, based on the total share of the vote in each region via a form of proportional representation known as the D’Hondt formula.

At the previous EU election turnout was 29.5% against a Wales-wide overall turnout of 32%, with the Isle of Anglesey being highest with 38% and Merthyr Tydfill and Blaenau Gwent tying with the lowest of just 27%.
