300+ Residents Have Their Say on Future of Wrexham Town Centre
Hundreds put forward their views on far-ranging plans for the future of Wrexham Town Centre.
Back in October Wrexham.com analysed and reported on the Town Centre Masterplan consultation, which provided mock-up images of how the town could look in 2028 while asking local residents what they would like to see in the town.
The consultation on the Wrexham Town Centre Master Plan closed on Friday, November 13, and saw 323 people take part and have their say.
The overall aim of the Master Plan is to give a single framework to development in the Town Centre, and bring together plans put forward by the Council, the Local Development Plan (LDP), national governments and private companies.
Areas examined under the consultation included:
Bridge Street
Bodhyfryd
Queen’s Square
Henblas Street
The fire station off Bradley Road
Data provided by Wrexham Council after the consultation provides some detail to the range of people who took part in the consultation, with the majority of respondents from Wrexham Town Centre and an equal number of men and women responding.
Overall a quarter of those who responded were aged 60 or over; 9% were aged twenty or younger and 64% were in the 20 to 60 age bracket.
Some of the main areas of concern which were highlighted included the identity of the town, the quality / offering of the shops currently in the town centre and everyone’s favourite topic – car parking!
The data also states that: “Those responding were interested in supporting retention of character buildings, the arts space and encouraging more niche providers.
“Most respondents supported mixed use development at Bodhyfryd.”
The information collated from the consultation is currently being analysed, and the executive board is due to meet on the findings of the consultation in the New Year.
Cllr Mark Pritchard, Leader of the Council, said: “We are very pleased with the large response to the public consultation on the Town Centre Master Plan.
“Given the importance of the Master Plan, we at Wrexham County Borough Council felt it was essential that the public be given the opportunity to voice their views and make suggestions on the development of the town centre.
“This shows that the people of Wrexham clearly have an appetite to have their say in the future of their town, and we look forward to discussing the development of the town with them in the near future.”
