Over 100 trees have been planted in Wrexham to mark the 100th anniversary on World War One.

A group spanning the generations planted 105 wildlife-attracting trees yesterday along the driveway of Groundwork’s base in Wrexham.

The event took place following a successful bid to receive trees from the Woodland Trust to mark the 100th anniversary of WW1.

People with dementia and carers as well as staff from Alzheimer’s Society’s Try Something New project joined young parents from Barnado’s to help with the tree-planting. The event was organised by Alzheimer’s Society in conjunction with the Woodland Trust, Groundwork Wrexham and Barnado’s as an act of remembrance.

The Try Something New project supports people with dementia and their carers to try something new. It is hoped that a new gardening group will be launched in Wrexham in the New Year. To find out more about the project, which is supported by the Big Lottery Fund, please telephone Keeley Bird on 01352 700724 or email [email protected].
