100+ Fines Issued For Dog Fouling & Cigarette Litter in Past Week
Over 100 fixed penalty notices have been issued in the past week to those found dropping ‘cigarette litter’ and letting their dogs foul in Wrexham.
The fixed penalty notices come as part of a countywide crackdown on littering and dog fouling – with environment protection officers, Kingdom brought in by Wrexham Council to help tackle the issues.
In the last week eight £75 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued by Kingdom for littering and dog fouling.
Five fell foul of the officers in Alyn Waters, one in Acton and one in Chirk.
In addition to notices issued for dog fouling those who drop cigarette litter are also paying the penalty with 95 tickets issued across the county borough.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “We are continuing with our zero tolerance approach to littering and dog fouling and are also taking action against those who are not adhering to dog exclusion areas such as football pitches and children’s play areas.
“Overall the response has been very positive with the public welcoming our approach. Obviously, those who are caught are not so happy but our approach has been well advertised since December and the message is clear – use a litter bin or take your rubbish home and make sure you are a responsible dog owner.
“Those who do so have nothing to fear from the enforcement officers.”
The new targeted approach to tackling dog fouling and dropping litter in Wrexham has developed a mixed response in the past few weeks, with more than 100 Fixed Penalty Notices issued within the first day of the ‘zero tolerance approach’.
Some have questioned if the response is warranted, with others unhappy for being ticketed for what they feel are ‘trivial matters’.
Others however have welcomed the new approach, noting that they hope it will make people think twice before littering or letting their dog foul.
