Details of Wrexham’s Christmas Light Switch on have been unveiled – with plans in place to ‘bring light to the town’ and create a positive community and family friendly atmosphere.
The thought of Christmas may be the last thing on some people’s minds at the moment, however with just over four weeks until Wrexham’s Christmas Light Switch on, plans for the popular event have been unveiled.
This year’s event will see a grand Lanterns and Lights Parade take place across the town – with Wrexham’s light switch on due to take place on Thursday 26th November.
The Lanterns and Lights Parade aims to expand on last year’s event, which saw saw hundreds parade their festive lanterns across the town centre before gathering on Queens Square to sing festive carols around Wrexham’s grand Christmas tree.
Last year’s event received great praise – with many commenting on the family friendly and community feel that was created throughout the evening.
As with previous years, next month’s Christmas event will begin at 6pm with crowds expected to begin gathering at Queens Square from 5:30pm.
The parade will bring ‘the light of Christmas to every corner of the town’ and will be led by Santa himself, along with his sleigh and reindeer.
This year’s parade will go down Lambpit Street, Chester Street, High Street, Hope Street, Regent Street, Argyll Arch before returning to Queen’s Square for Carols led by Santa and Wrexham Schools Choir and Band.
The lights are a collaboration between WCBC, THIS Project, Arts Connection, Coleg Cambria, Wrexham Schools and the traders of town (represented by the town centre forum and Wrexham Business Group).
Dave Gray from THIS Project said: “The idea of the parade is to bring the community together at Christmas in a traditional family celebration of the season.”
In the weekends leading up to the main event, there will be Free Family Lantern Making Workshops at with Arts Connection and THIS Project held across locations around town.

Saturday, 14th November 2015 People’s Market 11am to 4pm

The lantern and lights parade aims to be a community filled event and the more people who get involved and make lanterns of their own, the bigger the parade and the more festive the event becomes!
