What people are forgetting is what is going the other way! 158bln in business sounds totally inflated but you can bet ur bottom (euro) more goes the other way. We Import more than we Export! its all about lining their own pockets just look at Blair, Kinock, all promoters of Europe all getting paid by Europe!
I predict in 5 years we will be as broke as Greece, people donot realise we have another flood of economic migrants entering from the poorest countries joining, another strain on the already creaking NHS -Welfare state - and crime costs it will be to late after the next election! Cameron knows he will not be effected as he does not live in the real world.

up to november there was 52 bln more imported. There will be a skew this year because the meat imports is 3 billion a year and the cocoa market (starbucks tax scandal) is a 1 bln and various other tax changes.

But so what? The uk hasn't had a trade surplus for 30 years and on the whole, UK's GDP has boomed until the global financial crisis, even now it has the most jobs it has ever done. Why you ask? Because a successful economy is based not on trade deficits, but on how money is recycled.

you have to explain to me why economic migrants will make us as broke as greece because you haven't presented any facts to back it up.

I expect GB to leave the EU, because the GB just gets too emotional about foreigners (you only have to watch top gear or any international sporting event to see that) most people who vote won't make a logical decision based on any numeric data, just like they most don't vote on logic at an election.

Doesn't the EU subsidise UK farming quite a bit? Like £3.5 billion a year. As taxpayers we'd have to instead, if we left.

It's about 3.3 billion. but not as much as what the french get.


After the rebate, the uk contributed just under €15bln (cerca 13bln pounds) to the EU last year. That is a quarter of what the UK gets in VAT from both the import and export of goods. It got out of the GBP158 bln in sales (31bln in vat revenue) and at least 20% vat mark up on the 190bln of imports sold on in the country (38bln in vat revenue.)

It must be pointed out that wales gets more cash than it pays out to the EU.

Yes you are right.

GB should of course try to get at much trade as it can fromthe whole of the world.

Caveat: euro is getting stronger at the moment (or certainly the rates i'm getting at the moment, so this will make the pound more competitive with euro states which could, if not should increase the Euros share. Especially as the current predictions are that the eurozone has seen the worse of the triple dip.

The proposed EU/US free trade agreement (as with previous wto rounds like doha) means being in the EU increases our trade agreements around the world not just EU. As being part of the EU gives the UK more clout in trade agreements thus increasing and sustaining trade with non eu trading partners.

Can the uk really turn its nose up at 158 bln a year or risk reducing it? Can uk treasury risk reducing its 31bln in vat revenues, just on the hope it could find it elsewhere and if it doesn't who will pay for the spending instead?

you haven't explained why people coming for work will bankrupt GB?

you have to explain to me how the threat of romanians and bulgarians has made GB lose its AAA rating?

Can youtell me what was the ratings agency, Moody's explanation?

You have to explain to me why the romanians and bulgarians will choose a struggling economy like GB over Germany?
