Default Old Remploy Site Rhosddu

The new houses on the Remploy site are taking shape. Their construction is the now the familiar to Wrexham, wooden frame and brick exterior. It is the same method that has been used in Hightown and Rivulet Road. In many other areas of the country traditional building methods are still employed of either block/brick interior walls with a brick/stone exterior layer. The wooden frame probably has a cheaper construction cost and no doubt offers excellent insulation but has it a long life span? What happens if and when the mortar fails and water ingresses into the wooden frame ?

These designs have been developed over many years of research on different types of environment. Many of the features originated in houses built in Scandinavia. Easy cheap build, energy efficient. Like any house maintenance is required but these have the usual householders insurance package etc.
Only down side is being right at the side of the railway -- when the Kronospan trains literally rumble past the ground could vibrate.

The house builders insurance only lasts ten years , my concern is for say 25 years time! The Hightown Flats were built on a novel design in the 1970's which was pushed by the government of the day by offering local authorities loans. The design was flawed so badly that demolition was the only answer. I hope we are not building the next generation of such properties.
