Default Councillor's Expenses

After all the filibustering by Councillors that they HAD to take the increase in pay the FACT was they could write a simple letter and refuse it! Well done to Alun Jenkins for being the only Councillor to do so.

Old article now, but I remember writing this when councillors promised to donate their increase on a previous occasion.

Who is responsible for the misinformation , the Chief Executive Officier, Legal Department or Councillors ? It would be refreshing if an accurate statement was forthcoming about the true position regarding increases in allowances because it won't belong before they are offered another rise!

Councillor Brian Cameron in his May 2014 Newsletter to the Whitegate Ward , states " The Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales has recommended an increase to Members which the Council has to pay. This year as in previous years,Labour Councillors will not be accepting the increase but will be donating the imposed amount into the Labour Group Charity Fund, which makes yearly donations to local charities"

It would appear that he is wrong and a simple letter to the Legal Department will see the money withheld by the Council. That money, our ratepayers money, would then be in the coffers to be used to off set some of the cuts. These are year on year savings and soon mount up. I wonder if any more Councillors will write the relevant letter, we will know next year at this time just I time for the Election.
