Default Wrexham WW1 Commemoration's

With all the other budget stuff going on, I've not seen any information of how the Town Council intend to commemorate the start of the Great War in August 1914 or the subsequent years. Wrexham has strong links to The Royal Welch Fusiliers, indeed Wrexham Museum is now custodian of the regiments archives.

During the Great War the town paid paid a heavy price. The 1st Bn deployed in August 1914 to France and by October had been virtually annihilated in the 1st battle of Ypres and had to be reconstituted. Many of those men were from the Wrexham area, or had links to the town. In December 1914 Wrexham men took part in the Xmas Truce.

For the next four years the RWF Forum at will be publishing the known lists of Royal Welchman killed in that conflict, 100 years to the day of each soldiers individual death. Additionally other organisations will also be highlighting the regiments part in the conflict, including the RWF Museum at Caernarfon, which is compiling a virtual photo gallery of those men from the regiment who did not return home.

Between 1914 -1918 over 10,000 men from The Royal Welch Fusiliers lost their lives.

Unfortunately most of the threads on the forum mentioned are private, so unless you join the forum it is of no use to the public. Pity.

I did have a look on the Council Website and couldn't see any mention of Great War commemorations. Again I hope this is not an opportunity missed. There is notable public interest in this period of our recent history and Wrexham was home to a regiment that had over 40 battalions serving in the conflict. ………and now the council has the regiments archive!

Just out of interest on a cursory search of the CWGC database. 319 Wrexham men lost their lives serving with the RWF in the Great War….Search on just Wrexham 701 men. I'm sure that figure will raise further once you start looking at surrounding villages. Yet I can't see any mention of commemorations at official level on the council website, neither is there anything on the Wrexham Museum forecast?
