We were NEVER given a vote or referendum to join the EU. We were given a RETROSPECTIVE referendum to confirm membership of a trading entity the EEC. IT was never said that this would be any political, financial or military alliance. Ted Heath lied and said we wouldn’t lose any of our sovereignty, but kept the truth from us. Secret documents emerged 30 years later.

Official document FCO 30/1048 actively welcomed Britain’s decline and Europe’s predominance. The briefing paper acknowledges that Britain would in time become little more than a puppet state of Brussels, after ceding judicial and executive powers to the EEC. But, instead of sounding alarm bells, the authors of the paper warned ministers to hide the truth from the British public.

Arguably Britains entry into the EU was illegal, as our apparent entry was in violation of British law and was, therefore invalid.

In enacting the European Communities Bill through an ordinary vote in the House of Commons, Ted Heath’s Government breached the constitutional convention which requires a prior consultation of the people (either by a general election or a referendum) on any measure involving constitutional change. The general election or referendum must take place before any related parliamentary debate. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN as Heath knew he could not win that referendum at that time as the public were against it. We joined the EEC in 1973 without a referendum on it THEN there was a RETROSPECTIVE pubic referendum in 1975 sold on a pack of lies.

Ticking a box on a polling sheet is dead easy – but knowing with any degree of certainty, whether Brexit or Remain will be best for the country, is incredibly difficult.
But none of us know what the future holds, the fact is, people voted and decided to leave the Eu and that decision should be upheld.

Matt, do you really want to call a General Election on the notion that the EU are hinting that they may renegotiate? Result would obviously be non-conclusive.
If we go down the route of a peoples vote (although we have already had a peoples vote ) so we better call it what it really is “second referendum” Do we have
    A = Leave with Deal
B = Leave with No Deal
    C = Stay
Do we add up A + B as they both want leave ???
If we just go Leave or Stay again and Leave again win, do we have another peoples vote until remain get the result they want?

Change of leadership? there’s no one in the Tory party that stands out as a possible Leader, in fact who wants a job like this. Another case of EU bullying us “ if you get rid of May we might re negotiate “

    May to change her stance?
Arguably its been deliberately done this way – organised chaos. They have done all they can NOT to plan for No Deal to avoid it going through as it is NOT what the government wanted.

So there at the end will be no alternative – Mays sham deal or No Deal. The govt are relying on the 70% plus pro Remain parliament (not representative of the 52% pro LEAVE public on Brexit) to vote through her deal as opposed to the No Deal, most of them loathe.

J C is just a weasel who is staunch pro Brexit but hasn’t got the balls to come out to his own party and say so. It’s pathetic really, if he stood by his convictions he should have campaigned for Brexit but he just sat on the fence as he was too weak and even now he’s back peddling when his own party are still pro remain he won’t stand up and campaign for Brexit.

That no confidence pa-lava the other day was just a waste of everyone’s time when everybody knew it was physically impossible to win before the motion was even made, but he thought he’d do it anyway. And now he’s refusing to speak until a no deal is taken off the table, which apart from being constitutionally impossible, is a really piss poor thing to do. He should just meet and make his demands, not just cry that he’s not taking part if he can’t get his own way before negotiations can take place

A real Labour leader could turn this round massively to their parties advantage, be the party that saved Brexit, but he’s just putting his personal distaste for the conservatives above what’s right for his own party and the country.

In the current climate as it stands any General Election will endeavor to bring the same result as the last with no working majority. No party has any clear lead and it will just carry any uncertainty forward.

There is absolutely no point in a General election as as it stands there is no way any party would get a majority to control
JC is useless and 95 % of his cabinet are useless.

Any cabinet with Abbot, Mcdonnell, Watson, Thornberry, Gardiner, Chakrabati is a complete disaster in the making.
wow if the Tories are inept, and they really are… That lot are scary.

I am in favour of Leave and voted for that and I know why I voted for it. We should leave in March and finally be rid of the EU then negotiate . Anyone who thinks that the big German car makers and such will not be first in the queue to talk is deluded.

“It’s too late to keep repeating leave means leave and hope for the best it’s directionless. If there’s nobody there to lead you to leave then you are very much doomed to remain. Which is why it is best that there’s a General Election so all camps can vote in leaders of their respective wishes to actually try and execute what they want with a valid mandate.”

Did we not have a General election in 2017 and that election was fought on a mandate to deliver Brexit

JC and labour havent got a clue. WTF is Corbyn up to? He has maintained all along that we must follow the will of the people and leave EU. Now he is demanding May takes no deal off the table. The threat of no deal is the only bargaining chip the UK has over EU, if no deal is removed they will have zero incentive to discuss any kind of a new deals.
    It’s really quite pathetic,
“The result didn’t go how remain wanted it, so we must have another one, and keep having them until they get their own way”
There was, a “peoples vote”, the people voted to leave, that’s democracy in action right there.
They don’t like it, but would be foaming at the mouth if the roles were reversed, and we voted stay, but leave couldn’t accept it.
Time for remainers to get over themselves and move on. Our negotiating position has been severely weakened by messing about for so long.
Only time will tell if the people made the correct decision.
Its 2 months til we leave. If parliament cant agree a deal, as seems likely we must leave with no deal, temporarily onto WTO rules. We can trade with the EU as per article 24 of WTO rules. And the EU will have NO leverage over us. We will be able to conclude other trade deals with countries outside the EU. No wonder the EU is so against us leaving with no deal, they would have to negotiate on a level playing field.

I have no doubt remain will ramp up PROJECT FEAR again in the media in order to drag us forward. The vote last night wasn’t a no confidence in May it was a no confidence in the government, no right minded Tory is going to vote themselves out of power and the DUP will side with anyone promising them their moment of glory.

The trouble with most remainers is that they still cant believe they lost. I made a point that the fat cat bosses of Europe are unelected thats a fact Europe is a lost cause, facts are facts although not like a remainer to twist things for their own benefit.
There was nothing on the ballot paper to say leave with a deal that suits Europe, it just asked “should we leave or stay” fact. and the country voted to leave.

Brexit hasn’t worked out not because of so called false promises, but because remainers are unable to understand what loosing a vote means and have thwarted all or any attempt to reach a deal beneficial to this country.

We voted to leave the European union as a country by a majority, exactly the same way as the country voted in successful governments over my generation and before. The Government won its last term of office on the promise they would deliver on that vote. Whatever deal Europe has proposed it was never going to be beneficial to the UK.If we get to pull out and negotiate a cushy deal, others might follow suit (which may not necessarily be a bad thing, but the EU cannot afford to take that risk.
We have had 2 years of negative propaganda from the media. Remains campaign didn’t stop in 2016 when Leave won but just look at Europe now and imagine if it was a vote to actually join.

    Un-elected Fat cat bosses
    Greece bankrupt
    Italy bankrupt
    Spain bankrupt
France on the brink of bankruptcy
    Mass youth unemployment
€2.6 trillion quantitative easing debt to rollback somehow.

Anyone with any common sense wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole

Its time for our elected peers to come together and realize that this country was built on democracy with the right to vote part of that. They must deliver on that vote and take us out of Europe either with a deal that is good for us or no deal and we face the future with the World Trade Organisation.

“All the utility companies were informed re surfacing was going on it had been in the mix for two years ,no response was recieved before the re surfacing commenced ,as soon as it was done British Gas and the water told that they had new supplies to fit ,anger and complaints direct to the utility companies please these companies can and do what they like and all the screaming, shouting and the like won’t stop them as LEGALY they are allowed to do as they like with no consideration for the council or residents”

Thank you for your comment Ponciau “Posted on wrong topic in error”

To be honest that’s just passing the buck. So the council planning / Highways new nothing about road closure applied for by utility companies for the new services required at the new development at The Foundry Buildings. Planning would have known all about this development which was ongoing while the resurfacing was being carried out. Time the council grew a pair and insisted on complete reinstatement of the affected surface rather than a quick backfill and hope for the best.

I am not really sure what the Highways department or the council officials in charge of planning actually do all day but they sure as hell do not communicate with each other. Someone from planning must surely have known that Watkin Jones the developers of the current works at The Foundry Buildings would need to dig up the road. Plenty of opportunity to dig up while the road was left unsurfaced. No excuse for poor or lax management.
Perhaps we could have a comment from Highways explaining this embarrassing situation ???
