TimRegencyParticipant
It will be a short list but not as short as the number of Elected Labour MP’s. Saddled with the treachery to the Welsh leave vote of the un-democratic Lucas (and his Welsh leave denial cronies), the Labour candidate doesn’t stand a chance as there will be only one leave candidate either the Brexit Party or Conservatives. I urge the conservatives not to field a candidate in the constituency that has recently been confirmed to fully be a Brexit constituency. As for the Liberal un-democratic party – these are a bigger joke than Labour. I believe their Leader (as a Scot) has been planted in Westminster by the SNP to stop Brexit – a total reversal of their former policy. To vote Lib-Dems is a vote for the takeover of England and Wales by the Scots !
The problem with this argument is that we’ve been here before and it didn’t work out like you hoped.
Just over two years ago, Theresa May called her snap election for the very specific purpose of strengthening her hand for brexit and it ended up with a hung Parliament.
Just because a person is very eager for something to happen doesn’t mean that is what will happen.
TimRegencyParticipant
Parliament doesn’t dissolve until 5th November so the official election and purdah period doesn’t even begin until 6th November.
It is understandable that Labour has not yet got a candidate forward as Ian Lucas only recently decided to stand down as an MP before the next election. This has been an issue for many constituencies across the UK – even for the Government with MPs still standing down on a daily basis – with uncertainty over what candidates will replace them for the incumbent party. Snap elections are far from standard or certain.
Realistically it’s going to be a 2 horse race between Lab/Tories as it has been for the past few elections.
That’s right. I’m a member and know that Labour now have a short-list and will very soon be holding a hustings to hear from the candidates and then elect somebody.
October 22, 2019 at 3:47 pm in reply to: MP Susan Clwyd South’s MP has said she would vote for a confirmatory referendum #175813
TimRegencyParticipant
I don’t know why people act so surprised that a minority Government isn’t able to pass legislation through Parliament. People are just particularly sensitive to this because it’s Brexit.
The only way Brexit will go over the line is if General Election is called and a majority of no deal Brexiteers get elected in. Then we crash out of the EU.
Any other configuration will be blocked in some way shape or form by the various factions. A soft Brexit gets blocked for being a Brexit at all by Remainers and for being too soft by Brexiteers.
But if an election is called and a configuration is in play that favours remain then a People’s vote is coming.
I’m unsure what that means because if the country vote to leave again the majority of MPs who have been re-elected will still hold it up in Parliament indefinitely.
This could rightly go on for years.
Yes, this is why many brexiters try to conflate the referendum with Parliament / the General Election. They know they don’t have the numbers, so they pretend the narrow referendum result was a binding instruction to MPs.
TimRegencyParticipantAs bad as your previous attempt.
TimRegencyParticipant“tbe unelecable Corbyn”
The only original thing about this claim is the spelling.
TimRegencyParticipantWhat’s in Boris’ deal that makes it better than the good deal that we had with the EU before the referendum?
TimRegencyParticipantThis is surreal. I thought you wanted to leave, not carry on as normal, which is exactly what the ‘remain ‘ option is.
TimRegencyParticipantYou’re mixing up a Conservative opinion poll with General Elections.
Ian Lucas represents the many people who voted to remain in the EU, not just those who voted to leave. He also represents those who are not obsessed with boarding a brexit kamikaze flight.

TimRegencyParticipantI suppose there’s no harm in mentioning that they will take those wide plastic food trays with the plastic bottles now. Frees up a bit of bin space, but not likely a week’s worth.

TimRegencyParticipantIsn’t this down to George Osborne’s cuts? Something like a 56% central government cut to local councils?
The Tories seem to be doing a great job of distancing themselves from this.
