What we need is ‘affordable housing’ that young people and first time buyers can afford to buy, not subsidised and private rented housing that allows other councils to dump their problem residents/tenants on communities who don’t deserve them and allows buy to let landlords to make a quick buck.
I totally agree, but the trouble is that the banks are still holding on too the money. There not giving mortgages unless you’ve got a large amount as a deposit. 1st time buyers are now aged 35+ . That’s why the privately rented property market is the only one that’s moving !
SamParticipantPete, up in Brymbo we had the affordable housing banners everywhere, which is good.
But, the fact of the matter is that the WMBC will only grant planning too developments over a certain size if they include a percentage of properties which are deemed as ‘social’ housing. Up here social housings is used to accommodate families in crisis from as far away as Liverpool.
Everytime I read about the cable car I Pmsl. Who the hell would even consider such a ludicrous idea as that, never mind trying too promote it!
All I’ve seen so far is a very vague PDF of the perimeter and possibly where the canal will go.
Sorry, far too little detail to create a personal decision.
SamParticipantI agree with all the above comments.
The media, like a lot of the Modern UK, it’s lost it’s morals. Anyhow or anyway an individual or business can make a quid, they will, irrespective of who or what they destroy in getting it !
And if it’s illegal, they’ll pay some bent ‘person’ to sort it out.

Let’s make it clear, all cuts will harm the local economy and therefore a list of which cuts will affect the revenues of local businesses & local people the most, should also be taken into consideration as these will affect future council revenues too….e.g. less car parking revenue, less shop rental revenue, less council tax revenue, etc. Meaning more cuts and even less local GDP, when this is a time the council should be trying to stimulate the economy.
For once, I agree with you.
SamParticipantRight, so, you personally would like the general public to read through several pages reports rather than ‘newspeak’, which I would call bullet points.
Then, the public would hold referendums on the content of the full report’s.
Firstly, I don’t think for one minute that councillors read the full report’s themselves, there’s departments that condense them into bullet points for them. I’ve personally conducted exhaustive surveys, work related, which colleagues would not be able to understand or have no interest in the fineate detail or time too interprete. Therefore I condense it into bullet points.
Referendums on everything, whilst it’s the perfect democracy for decisions to be made, it’s long winded, labour intensive and would you get a true feel for the masses based on the full reports. Or would people just get board with the detail presented and either not both voting or vote incorrectly due to a misinterpretation of the extensive facts.

it’s not democracy.
“a fudge ” ? Please elaborate on this statement.
The council surely can propose where the cuts maybe best made, because they have all facts and figures too hand. Of course, there maybe some bias with the choices as everyone, yes everyone, doesn’t want to see cuts effecting them.
I’m also curious with your analogy of the survey being ‘newspeak’. All information we can collate as a civilised race, gives us knowledge. It’s up to the individual to work out the fact, fiction and lies. That’s how it works !
Or are you suggesting that super people who know everything, or claim too, have the right to speak over everyone, because what they say is important and is the be all and end all. Don’t you think that is a little 1984’ish ?
In this topic, you seem too hint at people don’t have the resources or intelligence to make their own mind up and are ‘ passively persuaded ‘ to go with what they say. Very thin ice you seem to walk upon regarding this.
Anyway, you’ll be glad to know that the local councillor has not taken me into a darkened room, shone a light into my eye’s whilst administering drugs. So I guess I can make up my own mind, thank you.
SamParticipantThey returned to cut the ivy now. Many thanks to fixmystreet and a credit to this forum. Thanks both. :D
SamParticipantExcellent info, I was told it was imminent.
