RohelendusParticipantDragon,
Can you prove that figure? It appears that no analysis of this claimed expense is forthcoming.
Recently a figure of £35,000 per year was given out by the council.
Considering that virtually all buildings take time to deteriorate if
left vacant and that for the first 3 years little deterioration will
actually take place.
Then the figure would calculate out at:
10 years at £35,000 giving a total expense of £350,000, not £900,000,
but there again there is no explanation of how the figure of £35,000
was reached!
RohelendusParticipant[quote quote=106756]Why do so many people make assumptions about cost of demolition, saving and re use- the only ones who probably have any realism on the figures will be Coleg Cambria who had got to design plan stage and undoubtedly costings. Why don’t the Council ‘buy’ these plans and make the assessment whether they could be adapted for a school instead of a college- if the building was in a stable state 3 months ago what has deteriorated so quickly.
Answer — is this part of the contract savings work that PWC have submitted — how much are they being paid if the building is pulled down- £20k – £30k!!
Will the Councillors on this thread ask their Executive Colleagues and Officers about their plans with the Faith Schools of St Joseph s, St Giles and St Mary’s– are they insisting on a flat site to move onto – if they take up their option why cant they look at preserving the building and utilising some of the plan proposals for the Coleg Cambria design.
There are still some elements of this rushed proposal that have not yet been put into the public domain– WHY?

99DylanJones, very Good points and Good questions that deserve truthful answers.
RohelendusParticipant“It stands to reason” … reason would be in precise costings, not in bald statements.
Yes… look at Eagles Meadow, a monstrosity in whatever location it was ‘dropped’.
Shrugs, each to his own, but mark my words in respect to the future changeover in councillors.
RohelendusParticipant[quote quote=106715]“Wrexham’s Liberal Democrat Councillors have successfully negotiated the first step to make sure there is proper consultation on Wrexham Council’s decision to demolish the former Groves High School.”
So what was the point of the Executive Board unanimously approving proposals to develop and clear the old school if they are going to bow to members of the public complaining? All they are doing is increasing costs …. before it gets ripped down!
If the Parish Church or St Mary’s Cathedral were to be in a state of disrepair then fine, by all means lets raise the money but not for an old school.
Why don’t the good folk of Wrexham have a whip-round to SAVE OUR SCHOOL. I bet that would have less contributors than my petition to keep free parking for Councilors and top Management ….. [if I am indeed real]

Once again bald statements with no worthwhile figures and costings. You will not sabotage the movement against demolition Councillor X. What may happen ultimately is that after the next election a large number of incumbents will not be seen again.
RohelendusParticipantCouncillor X,
I would like to see a breakdown of those figures. Also doing the maths …
Protecting the facade is virtually the same as ‘mothballing’,
so why the two amounts?
Again, the figures give no clarity, no evidence of costing or
perhaps ‘guestimation’.Not satisfactory, seriously the executive board need educating.
Looking at the wording of your post above is it possible that
you are a member of the executive board?Thank you for adding the above information to the thread.
RohelendusParticipantThank you for the links N Jones.
However, the council apparently don’t need planning permission in order
to demolish the building. In 1995 legislation was brought in and adopted
giving the right to demolish simply because the building has been built. The application, which by the way is HEAVILY REDACTED, is a prior notice,
and the only thing in question is: what form the demolition will take and
in what way it will be carried out. There HAS to be a way of stopping this latest idiocy by the present incumbents.
RohelendusParticipantHmmmm wrexview, maybe it’s time I spoke with Coleg Cambria.
RohelendusParticipantPro bono publico (English: for the public good; usually shortened to pro bono) is a Latin phrase for professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment or at a reduced fee as a public service.
RohelendusParticipantIt apppears that many many others are as concerned as I and also have been reading this threaad.. ie.. see reference to pro bono volunteers:
RohelendusParticipantThank you for your contribution rob. It was most interesting, more and more this whole incident becomes intriguing and troubling.
