Mrs CreweParticipantBritain seems to have replaced religion with politics. You hear it all the time, ‘my family has always voted Labour’. This means they are blindly following a party regardless of the policies.
Mrs CreweParticipantWhat are they getting away with? The reform of local government bill is part of the announced 2013/4 program. The people of Wales voted for this administration, who stated they would be reforming local gov. I don’t know why everyone seems so surprised by it. If you don’t like it there are Assembly elections next year, use your vote to send a message go for the party who says they won’t make the changes. I doubt you will find one, they are all talking about reform of one sort or another. Wales doesn’t need 22 councils.
Mrs CreweParticipantOf course parking isn’t a problem for Councillors as they have free parking in the centre of town at the Guildhall. In fact the senior management get free parking too. None of the rest of the less well paid staff get free parking, they have to pay the extortionate amount to come to work.
There have been several attempts to make the parking for staff in the Council fair, by making everyone pay but the Councillors won’t vote away their free parking. So much for a democratic organisation.
Mrs CreweParticipantAs someone who has to drive to work, long may they grit. Personally I would prefer that Muareen never sleeps a wink than I or others died in car crashes due to un-gritted roads
Mrs CreweParticipantWe were shocked how much our daughter was behind the children coming from English primary schools when we sent her to an English secondary school.
When we met with teachers about this issue they assured us they were used to this with children coming from Welsh primaries and always give them extra help to bring them up the normal standard they expect from children leaving primary.
You won’t get a teacher on here admitting that Welsh schools are failing pupils, but they are.
Mrs CreweParticipantGPs have been holding the nhs to ransom since its inception. The only way they could get them onboard was to make them the gatekeepers then allow them to remain out of the system as independent contractors.
I wish all the parties would stop talking and treating the NHS like a holy cow. The model we have was designed for a 1948 Britain, that country doesn’t exisit anymore. Not only has the population grown, but medicine, the identification and treatment of disease and conditions has advanced expedentially in the last 60 years.
The NHS a has to change, and we have to start taking more responsibility for the way we use the NHS. 5% of the population use 95% of the 999 services, we all know that the emergency services are being abused by a hard core minority of the population. These people need to be re-educated on what is an emergency and what isn’t.
But this is only part of the solution, the other is inside the NHS itself. I trained as a nurse and have worked in various parts of the NHS. Sadly I’ve ended up on the other side as a patient, but I’ve been able to have first hand experience of the inner workings. The elephant in the room that no one will talk about is that there is also hard core minority of staff who are lazy, cruel and not suitable for their post. They have been sucked into believing their own press and see themselves as heros or administering Angels. No criticism is allowed because of the work they do, the result of this is Mid Staffs, were patients died due to poor medicine and nursing. Medical staff need to feel confident that when they report poor practice they will be believed and support. The unions need to stop protecting staff from genuine and warranted criticism. The politicians need to stop caring about appearance and make the hard decisions about radically changing the way health is delivered in this country. And when I say this country I mean the UK.
Mrs CreweParticipantLesley Griffiths was the previous Health Minister, why? Because she used to be a medical secretary. She has a fair portion of blame to accept for the state of the NHS in Wales.
Mrs CreweParticipantI did really consider which secondary school to send my daughter to, and I sent her to one in England as I wanted her to get a good education. The state of education in Wales is another example of the uselessness of the Welsh Assembly. Devolution has brought Wales nothing but harm.
Mrs CreweParticipantWhen Edwina Hart was the minister for Health, she was told by every body not to make one single health board for North Wales, but she knew best and lumbered us with the BCUHB. Which incidentally is named after a woman who lived in Wales until she was 12 and never came back. She did not nurse the soldiers in the Crimean war as er ‘service’ them and died of syphilis in the brothel she owned in Liverpool.
The Maelor was a great hospital once, it had enthusiastic staff with talented Drs and nurse practising excellent medicine. Now they are unable to do their jobs properly as the management is criminally poor to the point of incompetence. The NHS a in Wales is only one example of the uselessness of the Welsh Assembly, it has brought nothing but harm to Wales.
Mrs CreweParticipantThe biggest irony is, the same people out protesting against fracking were no doubt out protesting the closures of the pits.
