So the firebreak has failed due to reopening the schools before the firebreak has ended.

My children made it 1 day back in school yesterday after 3 weeks off (half term and previously having to self isolate for 2 weeks because of a school outbreak).

This morning a frantic looking headteacher advises us that 2 classes have to close for 2 weeks because there’s been 2 positive outbreaks of Covid just 1 day after half term. That’s my kids off for another 2 weeks and a risk of spread between families.

There will be other outbreaks in schools around Wrexham and Wales. Nice work Mr Drakeford.

This is a heavily opinion based discussion forum where people chiefly come on with the purpose to have a good moan about things they don’t like going on in town and county.

I’ve previously called for the whole management structure of Betsi to be replaced as in recent years there have just been so many failings in healthcare provision across this part of Wales and an ever increasing financial black hole.

However my criticism is reserved specifically for that level of our local healthcare system. Based on all of my interactions and experiences in the Maelor (usually as a visitor or support for someone in my family) I cannot fault the level of quality and dedication of the staff who work there and even the volunteers. It’s clear that everyone there has to work incredibly hard and try their best to help everyone out, and overall as a nation we take the NHS for granted. They are only interested in the best possible health outcome for any of their patients. Doctors and nurses certainly deserved more than claps for dealing this pandemic and hopefully this will be recognised once this is all over.

Drakeford even confirms in this article that mixing in households in a way that people can get comfortable is the main cause of increased spread, so what the hell is going on? Bringing back the bubbles will cause the infections to skyrocket as people can’t bubble up responsibly, it’s human nature.

How can parents/grandparents choose which of their grown up children and which of their grandchildren they can meet if they are spread across multiple households? How do you choose which of your friends you want to hang out with? How do you choose between seeing your partner, if you don’t live together or your family?:

“If you are in your own house and you meet other people, none of that happens, as we tend to revert to behaving in the ways that we are comfortable with and are used without those safeguards.”

“The evidence is its intra-household and inter-household transmission that is the biggest engine of coronavirus.”

It was of significant amusement the number of local demolition experts who deemed the controlled detonation to have ‘gone wrong’ because the building didn’t collapse in on itself just like they are used to seeing on YouTube videos.

Clearly there must have been some level of expectation that it was going to topple sideways based on the huge area around the building that was cleared away. It also made sense to me as the base structure is unusual, with the base being much thinner than the top of the building. It was almost like it fell like a chopped down tree, with the thinner base of the building being a bit like a tree trunk. I could of course be completely wrong, but that’s what logic would dictate and would be factored in by those who have years of taking down tall buildings.

To be fair, I walked into the hospital main entrance the other day and thought that considering this was the number 1 place in Wrexham that we want any risk of Covid to be limited to the extreme that it would be a wise idea to have no touch sanitisers.

I prefer the stuff they use in hospitals (to my knowledge the same stuff they’ve always used on the wards) to the horrible goop slime you have to put on your hands in some supermarkets.

The other interesting question will be whether or not Ms Atherton and the other Welsh Tory MPs who so aggressively opposed the Welsh National lockdown will inform the Prime Minister that a England or even UK wide lockdown that lasts even longer is a bad idea – or will they be whipped into the nodding dogs that they are.

This was her statement re: firebreak

It sounds very much like there is going to be a panicked cabinet meeting and an announcement possibly over the weekend or by Monday at the latest and opinions from medical experts that the horse has bolted the stable in terms of getting infections under control.

If this is the case then in my opinion the Celtic nations have shown foresight in locking down earlier to limit spread and that attacks from Conservative MPs against them were purely political and opportunistic.

MP1953 that is the sort of amusing response I was hoping for because whilst in part this is criticism of her it’s also showing the entire farcical nature of the current firebreak rules.

The fact is pretty much anyone could find a loophole in them to justify whatever activity it is they are doing at any given time – as long as it isn’t a house party or trying to buy a new iron. The old saying “The Law is an Ass” springs to mind.

If everyone decided to go and do what they wanted then the firebreak will have been for nothing and I’m altogether skeptical it’s been any good anyway – the way the virus is ravaging uncontrolled through England.

Our fire break has been the equivalent of p*ss*ng on a campfire to try and put it out whilst we observe a raging forest fire just across the road with the wind in our direction.

Nice empty plate protest outside Atherton’s office, have to say it’s a better way to protest vs some MPs having their offices or vehicles etc… vandalised with graffiti.

I very much doubt it will make much a difference to her way of thinking, but at least she’s seen a notice that the people of Wrexham are not happy with her way and the Tories way of thinking.

The money for free school meals during the holidays was provided as part of an £11m package across Wales handed out by the Welsh Government. So the money provided to WCBC for this is for this purpose only and can’t be spent on anything else.

The issue of the lack of spend on roads, lighting and drains has been going on for years and of much discussion on the forums. I suspect a lot of it is to do with the continued austerity for Councils across the UK as we always hit a funding shortfall every year and cuts are rife. I expect this will be one of the worst years in recent history as Council Tax receipts will be down significantly as people are unable to work and therefore their ability to pay.
