Er, you are rude and a bit confused! Llay side has no facilities such as toilets or a cafe. In fact, I make the distinction between Llay and Gwersyllt side clear in one of my earlier responses. I think you are perhaps confused in terms of geography – this thread relates to Llay side of Alyn Waters not Gwersyllt or Ty Mawr, Perhaps you spend too much time in Shropshire to know the difference? The Mere is within walking distance of Ellesmere. It isn’t comparable.

Oh and perhaps you need to get a dog? Dogs expose their owners to a lot of germs, which can help build up a human’s immunity to disease :)
some people used to go there three times a day for the benefit of the above that is 3 pounds.

By three times a day I presume you mean dog walkers ? Surely this is a good thing, it will mean less dog mess to be picked up resulting in a cleaner park for everyone. It’s not as if they contribute anything to the park either other than using the parking facilities.

    Reaches for tin hat.
But Ellesmere is a town with town amenities! People are willing to pay for that and the mere and all the other facilities that are available. Hardly comparable with some green open space! Will you will be comparing it with Chester next and advocating charges of £4 for 2 hours!

Oh, and yes lets encourage the football club to relocate and discourage unhygenic dogs and their owners. Lets charge people so they go go to Moss Valley, Acton park, Waen-Y-Llyn and Marford Quarry (all free parking and all with about the same level or better amenities) instead for their recreation. Or perhaps they may just not bother, becoming more inactive and generally more unfit / unhealthy.

But each to their own views. In 6 months time it will be interesting to see a FOI request detailing the financial success (or otherwise) of this project.

I think a lot of people from the village do walk up to the park. However people from town and the surrounding villages would drive. No one suggested that this only affected llay residents? Likewise, The football club used to be attended by kids from all over Wrexham not just children from the village

The empty car Llay carpark which is usually chockablock of a weekend shows that people are going (or parking) elsewhere for the sake of a quid. There is no doubt about that amongst regular park users.

Totally agree that the machines will cost WCBC more to administer than they will raise (over a 12 month rolling period). I would love to know who carried out the feasibility study and whether they will be accountable if this is confirmed. I saw photographs of the Llay carpark looking rather empty last weekend in the beautiful weather. At least the Gwersyllt side has some facilities which may encourage payment.

I think it’s incredibly short sighted to change people for accessing our areas natural capital. The benefits of free access for all in terms of health and well being of the local population would surely outweigh and small amount of profits that WCBC rather optimistically expect to raise? In terms of the local football club and the ‘it’s only £1 argument’ yes, many families may be able to afford £1 to park the car. But the principle is that a charge is being imposed on families for them to access outdoor recreational facilities leading to the clubs relocation = decreased participation. What next? A couch to 5k club relocates to Acton park? Walkers groups meeting in Waun-Y-llyn instead?

For the record, I’m not someone who parks my car outside someone’s house all day and goes to work. However, I have been verbally abused by someone for parking in ‘their private space’ (a public highway with no dropped kerb or gated access for off road parking) whilst I attended a fitness class in the evening for half an hour in the Acton area. No alternative payable spaces were available (the park car parks were full). I’m not sure if the above circumstances would warrant a vandalism attack on my car as being socially justifiable by a theoretical perpetrator? The question is only a rhetorical one but you may get the drift.

Oh, and no finishing school for me – just a Wrexham Comp but I reckon I know right from wrong well enough.
It doesn’t really hold water to argue that because the town houses do not have personal driveways or garages that a visitor may park in front of them as long as they please – after all the visitor is entitled to do so as they pay their dues, especially as the visitor has their own drive at home with a garage hence they are superior to humble townsfolk. It isn’t the ” right ” thing to do, just because you can do something doesn’t mean one should.
I’m afraid that it does hold water. The road is a public highway, it is not part of the property. Does someone who owns or rents a flat above a commercial unit in the town centre have the a designated private space on a pedestrianised street? And who says the ‘visitor’ when at home has a private parking space or garage? They may live in a mid terraced property with street parking in any village in Wrexham that has the same type of issues as the properties closer to the town centre, albeit to a lesser degree.

This issue irks me. Many people who want to buy or rent a house with the convenience of a private parking space pay the premium over and above a comparable property with street parking only. Unless there are good reasons why the person residing in a property should have a dedicated space (for example because they have a disability) I fail to see why they would have a priority over anyone else who is driving a roadworthy, taxed vehicle. That is unless the resident pays for a exclusive residents parking space so that the local authority can generate some much needed revenue.

I notice the archaeological report is now available within the WCBC website’s planning application.
It doesn’t appear that anything particularly significant was found during the investigations apart from some medieval drains / ditches.
The report makes interesting reading from a potted history point of view though!

I too am disgusted by some of the horrible insults / comments that have been posted on here – people should be able to voice their concerns freely with out fear of bullying. Sheefag and Old dog – you should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope that this thread can revert back to discussing the proposed development – it’s vitally important that people can ascertain the issues so that they can make an informed decision on whether to raise objections.
