The “new” Wrexham team haven’t so far had the best build up to the new season. Some mediocre performances against
very poor opposition as well as a thumping from premier side Stoke city doesn’t look promising for the coming season.
We can only hope that from these pre season games they have learnt a few lessons and can improve and gel together.
Rondetto, surely this thread should have been in the joke section.

BenjaminM:- Yes there are two ways of looking at it and stallholders could be failing in their obligations. If WCBC however draw up a set of rules and stallholders break those rules, then it is in the hands of WCBC to put it right.

The Council were going to open the Butchers Market on a Wednesday afternoon, to fall in line with the parking drop off point for visiting buses to the town centre in High Street. It now looks that the Council have had a rethink. In fact there are many of the stalls in the Butchers Market closed all day on a Wednesday. So much so for Market Regulations, when the Council will not implement them. Could it be, the Council would have, in the back of their minds, to put out the markets out to tender?

Here we go again, what figures are we to believe coming from the Council? There are available to let, 58 stalls in the Peoples Market. At the Executive Board meeting in January 2015 we were told that at that time there were 9 stalls vacant and 9 were used for flexi tenants. Using my limited maths that would have left 40 stalls fully occupied. Cllr Hugh Jones went on to say that 14 stalls would be lost to the new development. It now transpires that the new development will include up to 30 market stalls, a loss of 28 market stalls not 14 as originally informed. Does this mean that 10 traders who had stalls in January were now going to lose them as the stall capacity has now been reduced to 30.

It was proposed after a consultants report on the Markets three years ago to retain only two of the three markets. This was later not carried out after consultation with traders. The problem with two of the Markets is that they are listed buildings. The Council use this as an excuse to not carry out any internal refurbishment to these premises. When you look at the same scenario in Chester, shops on the rows that are listed, nevertheless have modern interiors whilst keeping the outside olde worlde . WCBC do not seem to be capable of any flair to keep the markets attractive to tenants and public.

I have to agree with you Alunh about the Markets. If you recall the meeting a few years back that we both attended in the Council offices, we were told the new council management were going to reinvest the rents from the Markets back into the Markets. Today, I see no reinvestment in either the Butchers or General Markets, and the Peoples Market is still in the lap of the gods. I have heard that the Council are doing away with the full time and part time market assistant managers. It is my belief (sadly) that WCBC have no interest in the Markets. or else they would have made some moves three years ago.

BenjaminM. When you are referred to a hospital consultant, you get one opinion. When the Council ask Consultants for an opinion, it is the opinions of many so called experts working in that company. To think that so many experts got it wrong in the case of Waterworld astounds me. The Property Services Department of the Council is full of engineers/surveyors on salary bands £40/£60k. Do you really believe that these people are incapable of doing their job description. You seem to despair at the level of understanding displayed in some posts. Me thinks you despair with anybody that has a different opinion than you.

It puzzles me where the Chief Executive Officer stands with regard to Consultants. Posters on here raise questions, and highlight, the errors in information given by these consultants, yet the spending on Consultants carries on at an alarming rate. Surely the Chief Executive Officer must ask herself, why are my departmental Chief Officers not capable of doing this work . Maybe we could have a question and answer session on Wrexham.com as we have with the police.

Some very valid points Council Watcher. Obviously most of our elected members would not have the expertise to come up with what you have. You are the type of person that should seek election to the Council. The present salary band £13k/£47k goes to people, that in most cases are not qualified for that amount of salary.
