jimbowParticipantNen, they have ipads with all the information, that is of course if they ever read them.
jimbowParticipantI have looked at the attendance register for Councillors on WCBC web site.
On extracting the figures for one Councillor from 21/11/15 to 7/11/16 the expected attendance at meetings was 25, of which they attended 19. The Councillor also attended 14 meetings over and above what they were expected to attend.
The meetings are in the region of two hours, times 33 meetings attended, equals 66 hours for £14,000 or £212 per hour.
I think their allowance needs to be reduced.
jimbowParticipant
For the record County Councillors do not set their own pay that is carried out by an Independant Body.
With the run up to local elections it is understandable that members do not wish to be associated with pay increases, especially at a time when we are still forced to make cash savings in the region of £5million next year.
That said if Council employees are entitled to a pay award then surely there is an argument that County Councillors ought to be treated no differently.
Once awarded elected members can instruct payroll to pay them the existing rate or forgo their allowance 100% if they so wish.
Before I am asked back in 2012 I decided to commit myself more or less full-time to the role of a lay Councillor and for that reason I have no concerns about receiving the £14k pa allowance.
I hope we can attract younger Wrexham folk to stand and be elected in 2017 but the constant snipping at the role of County Councillor will surely put off a number of worthy candidates. Who then is the loser….I would argue the people of Wrexham.
14k per annum is a hell of an hourly rate for a part time job.
jimbowParticipant
And ‘strangely’ a lot of the recommended cuts/losses were at senior management level where a bigger percentage payment to PWC resulted and said managers receive enhanced pay offs.
Where does the Chief Executive stand on senior management levels. Surely she must know the situation, yet requires PWC to advise her. You just cannot make it up.
jimbowParticipantCould it be Everland have had an offer from maybe Tesco for their current property?

jimbowParticipantI do not have the new boxes.
I presently have a black bin,a green bin, a container for plastic and glass articles, and a bag for paper waste.
Last week the Council dropped off a further two gray containers for food waste. This idea for food waste was tried out a few years ago, but was later knocked in the head.
Now at more expense it is being brought back. Who comes up with these bright ideas?
jimbowParticipant
The Playday is always very successful and well attended, pity it is on a day when some businesses still close for a half day.
The Council owned Butchers Market closes for half a day on Wednesday’s. This is on High Street, the destination drop off point for coaches. Council run Destination Wrexham need to get their act together.
jimbowParticipantPeterthewatcher,
To me there will never be a time in the Butchers Market where stalls will amalgamate into a shop premises. There are two many problems associated with such a venture.
Cllr Derek Wright’s remarks that since the Task and Finish Group in 2013, it seems management that was put in and the improvements re investing profits has had a big impact.
Does Cllr Wright live on a different planet? What improvements have been made since 2013?
When service charges were introduced into the markets in 2003, this covered the Council’s running costs, the rent was for the Council’s back pocket.
From 2003 until 2011 the Council’s operating profit from the Butchers Market has never fallen below £50,000 with no re investment. Since 2013 it has decreased year on year and for 2015/16 is projected to be around £17,000.
When the Council aspirations if and when, come to fruition in another five years time and the markets are thriving I
maybe be persuaded to believe their hype.
jimbowParticipantMarch 24, 2016 at 9:46 pm in reply to: Councillors To Discuss Market Options: Investment, Outsource Management or Sell #109697
jimbowParticipantWhen Councillor Hugh Jones the Lead Member brought the Arts Hub/Peoples Market before the Executive Board in January 2015, he quoted that there would be a loss of 14 stalls to the new development. At that time the Peoples Market was quoted by the Council as having 58 stalls. We are now losing 38 stalls instead of the original 14. How can we believe anything else the Council tell us when the figures are as distorted as those given.
I have sympathy with traders in the Butchers and General Markets in having to choose the options they were given. The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know. Unfortunately, the devil you know is completely incapable of running the markets. -
