JaneJParticipantThis has been an issue for quite some time with LDF’s giving false negatives – it appears it is only a small percentage of cases but each false case is a problem for the individual. It appears with the shortage of PCR these cannot be rolled out as an alternative at present.
The real problem still seems to be the growing pressure in hospitals – it may the the same percentage as 12 months ago but now it is based on a far higher level of positive cases so the number of hospitalisations is bound to grow, also at a time when over 25% of hospital staff are either positive or having to isolate.
Anyone who thinks this is just a mild infection really needs to stop and think of the bigger picture as anyone of us could be the next positive case that ends up in hospital. The crunch date for North Wales is 17th January which is when the case numbers will peak after Christmas and New Year mixing.
JaneJParticipantTotally astonished that anyone from the Council is spoken as if this is new – perhaps next time Council members and Officers need to borrow a pair of glasses so they can find their way to Specsavers. At least at nearly evet Planning Committee meeting where a town centre application was being discussed Cllr Alun Jenkins raised concerns about bin storage and on every occasion he has been shot down.
JaneJParticipantLet’s hope after Christmas new people give serious thought to whether to stand for the Council elections in May.
There is a plea though to all those who get elected as ‘Independents’ you should all come together and draw up a manifesto of pledges – the current system with some Councillors only worried about ‘their’ potholes or ‘their school’ and don’t give a damn for the whole Wrexham picture. Yes people are elected to sort local issues but these must be in the context of county wide services such as Education, Social Service, Roads etc. There is just no accountability in place at the moment because most Independents have been elected on very local issues and then are not strong enough to understand the ;BIG; picture issues.
JaneJParticipantHave Wrexham.Com just put up the Welsh version of the logo or is this the one and only one – if there is only one then the Council have gone against their own Welsh language policy of giving EQUAL status to English and Welsh — the question is not about it being in Welsh but whether the whole of the City of Culture and then presumably the City bid as well will be based on the spelling of Wrexham!!
OR is this a ploy tom try and get the Plaid anti city status application on board by trying to get a bigger Welsh image for the town..

JaneJParticipantCity of Culture – are we a multicultural town – does not appear to be reflected in the picture!!
JaneJParticipantBrief synopsis of all the areas bidding https://www.inyourarea.co.uk/news/the-uk-towns-competing-for-city-status-in-2022/
In the criteria it states either a town or the entire county could apply — if the Council had looked at the whole County then a different discussion may be taking place — Question who decided the bid would be for the town only and not the county? When did this take place and what criteria was used?
“Applications may only be made by an elected local authority for its entire area
or a distinct area within its boundary.”QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON ENTRY GUIDELINES
Q: Can we involve the public in the compilation of our entry?
A: Yes, by all means, so long as you do not exceed the standard size and format.
To Council — will they involve the public directly in the applicationQ: Can we publish our entry on our website?
A: Yes, local authorities are welcome to publish their entries if they wish to do so.
This will be a miracle if this happens – wonder what level of distortion will be included such as ‘we have all the Council supporting our proposal’ – what they probably mean is the Executive Board are all in support.Q: Will the Government keep our entry confidential?
A: Not necessarily. We will not automatically be publishing applications however you
should be aware that these can be requested under the Freedom of Information Act.
Requests for disclosure will be considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act. If a local authority wishes any part of its application
to remain confidential it is asked to flag this up with a clear indication for us to take
into account in deciding whether the information should be released. Wherever
possible we would then alert the local authority before releasing such information.Q: We cannot afford a glossy booklet/external publishers/research. Is it still
worth our entering?
A: Yes. The Government does not want local authorities to incur any undue expense
entering the competition. It is the quality of the contents of the application, taken as a
whole, that will be assessed, rather than the standards of presentation.Wonder how much Wrexham is spending and which pockets of Town Investment funding is being used..
Q: We do not have data on all the points suggested. Does this matter?
A: No. Please simply provide whatever you have or can readily obtain. The
Government does not want local authorities to incur any undue expense by entering the competition.
JaneJParticipantI wonder how many Councillors will be summoned to the Standards Committee for bring the Council into disrepute. The behaviour of some of them at the meeting is totally disgraceful and the antics of the way the Executive ‘hijacked’ the purpose of the meeting is nothing short of bring the whole of Wrexham Council Goverence under question.
The behaviour standards is set out in — Code of Conduct for Members
(b) show respect and consideration for others;
(c) not use bullying behaviour or harass any person; and
(d) not do anything which compromises, or which is likely to compromise,
the impartiality of those who work for, or on behalf of, your authority(c) report to your authority’s monitoring officer any conduct by another member
which you reasonably believe breaches this code of conduct; We will await to see who if anyone is either referred to the committee or may even self refer!!

JaneJParticipantA major problem is the level of disagreement and despite Alun and others saying retailers are up for making a go the lack of their representation at crucial meetings such as the Town centre Forum, Wrexham Business Group etc shows the lack of joined up working. It is years since there was a vibrant Town centre Forum with really good cross section of businesses all working together. If the businesses cant unite then what chance is there really for the Town. It is the same few people (about 6) who have put a lot of effort into this but been bashed time and time again by businesses noit getting off their buxms to make a difference.

JaneJParticipantThe £2m had come in as a grant — how come the Council have not complied with the offer letter? How many other grants come to the Council but are then not used.
On a different track with funding the amount collected from building developments under section 106 is another pot that is supposed to be used for specific projects yet often are never completed years after the builders have left. Perhaps Cllr Phil Wynne would be quite astonished if he looked over the past 10 year of how much has ben collected and how little has been spent. -
