Mike…are you part of a group? Post above states that Maddocks and Prince are the unaligned. So just asking the obvious question…are there 3 unaligned or 2?

I am no Labour sympathiser or a Labour voter…but I am extremely concerned about the people of Wrexham voting in a Conservative and one as shallow as Atkinson and Baynes in Clwyd South. If there was an alternative I would vote that way but there isn’t and my vote this time is to ensure that the Conservatives can be held to account and not have a bigger majority. I know if Wrexham falls and Clwyd South that there majority will be too great.

Not me – Darryl did that so I am reading it for the first time over a cuppa!

As a tangent I was pointed to this interesting post on the Save Plas Madoc Facebook page regarding the results and turnout https://www.facebook.com/groups/1388402681406725/permalink/1877799779133677/ and depending on your point of view the result there was either good / bad or indifferent. As you say, the winner there had 14% of the possible turnout and even less if you consider those who did not register to vote.

However, you can only play the game infront of you and all that!

I was quite vocal on that point, as I’d just seen Blackwell get voted in Live on the Wrexham.com video feed and really needed to vent. It has since thrown up interesting discussions across social media about not berating non-voters within areas perceived as deprived as there is an apparent disconnect between politicians and the ‘have-nots’ but I think that has always been the case. I think many people were unaware that there was a strong non-political type independent candidate standing in the ward but the message didn’t get across to the right number of people.

I had followed the post up on Wrexham.com’s interesting article about where there was low voter turnout as the discussion had continued on there. There was a small positive note that the turnout in Plas Madoc for local elections had increased from just under 20% last time to 27% this time, which doesn’t look much, but does actually represent a 35% increase in turnout. Which means all the political activism surrounding the Leisure Centre has at least made a few people take a greater interest [or perhaps it was all the Wrexham.com election coverage ;)]

So far though, the best thing I’ve had from all my online political rantings of late is an invite to the pub for a pint as apparently I need to get out more.

Matt, you must be proud of the Facebook page SavePlasMadoc. Vile and disgusting posts by some.

The way this Conservative administration pumps out the fake news reminds me very much of Trump in the USA. The rant about The European Union trying to meddle in this election, the fake news on Labour and the economy and the constant narrative of “we need a strong leader to negotiate Brexit” when in reality Theresa May showed her weakness by calling a snap election.

That being said, Labour on a national level are currently a joke. Their policies sound attractive, but are completely unworkable without substantially increasing the national debt. It’s more of a optimistic wishlist than an actual manifesto.

Then there’s the Tories wonderful track record, increasing the national debt from just above £1trn when they came in in 2010 to £1.72trn this year, whilst achieving sweet FA. Mr Osbourne’s Austerity’s magic numbers machine. I don’t think Hammond’s grasp of numbers are very strong & stable either.

A lot of people believe this false narrative that Labour are poor at running the economy and the Conservatives are so much better. If you trawl the Internet the true picture can be revealed. I encourage you to look. Try sites such as http://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2016/03/13/the-conservatives-have-been-the-biggest-borrowers-over-the-last-70-years/ and there are plenty more to view.

The main point here is the settlement for Wales set by Central Tory led Government. If that settlement reduces then the Welsh Government then have to make savings. It is where those savings are made. To say that Welsh Government have reduced spending on the NHS in Wales but not take into account the reduced settlement just paints the wrong picture.

To have someone who has basically assisted in tidying the town centre as a candidate for such an important position is ludicrous. Same as the guy who has been put forward up my way in Clwyd South Simon Baynes…he just lost a local election in Powys. If he isn’t good enough for a local authority then he certainly isn’t good enough in Clwyd South. Just hope that people don’t vote blindly and look at what the person has done prior to the election. Simon Baynes has done nothing and only comes out at elections. Still no Lib Dem candidate and Plaid still to name in Wrexham. Wonder who they will be.

Did the Wrexham.com coverage actually make a difference? Would be good to have a survey and see if the public actually took any notice of the information. For instance a number of Councillors didn’t complete anything but still got elected. Personally thought it was a fantastic piece and candidates that completed their profiles and questions should be congratulated regardless of whether you agree with them or not.

I thought the profile from David Maddocks in Pant hit home as an honest guy wanting to do his best. Exactly what people want.

My obsession has been noted?? Am I one of those you mention? Nope but yes I am unashamedly bias towards Dana. Have posted that numerous times. Am I a Labour supporter? Nope apart from in this local election. In the General I will probably vote Labour because I don’t want to see a Conservative win, but could vote Lib Dem depends who they put up.

It is good to see that you are not aligning with anybody as in joining a group or a party. My apologies for making an assumption, and as you quite rightly say the electorate made a choice…they voted for you an Independent. So good luck.

Regards Independents…..don’t think any of them will truly be Independent. The public think that Independent means they will vote Independently. This is not the case. That’s why they should declare their intentions prior to the election. So the people of Wrexham have just voted to keep the same dull, ineffective, clueless regime in power. So…suck it up Wrexham it’s what you wanted.
