One of the reasons why there is such a disconnect between politicians and public is because too many of the public are poorly educated as to how politics works. Every year I hear the same rubbish about cutting the number of councillors, giving them all pay cuts and scrapping the mayor meaning there will be plenty of money about. Whilst I would be happy if all 3 happened, it would not stop budget cuts. The biggest thing is that councillors could not do any of that even if they wanted to. Decisions on councillor numbers, councillor pay and civic roles are the responsibility of the Welsh Government. So if you are really that desperate to see councillors hit, then lobby the AMs. I dont rate most councillors but at least blame them for what they are responsible for, not what they cant do anything about.

This is like a broken record. Councillors cant give themselves pay rises, only some panel can. I think most councillors are a waste of space and damage Wrexham but FFS blame them for what they do wrong not what they have no control over. If you are that bothered why dont you email them all and ask if they are taking the rise or not. You could even publish the results on here.

The Monitor you would need to write to your assembly member if you wanted the mayor to do it voluntary. They set the payscales, council cannot do anything about.

Every county council in Wales must have a mayor or chair. Flintshire and Denbighshire have chairs cos they have town mayors in their counties. If you changed it in Wrexham to a council chair it would make no difference whatsoever. So if having a mayor bothers you that much then write to your assembly member rather than give the people of Wrexham false hope that the council can abolish the mayor when they cannot.

Agree with Matt. I am not saying that all Remainers are middle-class snobs. What I am saying is that is the perception amongst ordinary people and this isn`t helped by some remainers inferring that leave voters are nothing more neanderthals. Just reading wrexham.com fb page and there is a troll on there insulting people calling them gammon. Clearly we have a very divided country. I just feel that events such as the one tomorrow will serve no purpose and will only wind up locals who already believe they are looked down on by the so-called liberal elite.

JP comments basically sum up what the problem is here. Remainers are so full of their own belief that they are intelligent people and the leave voters are thick. Well it seems to me that it is the Remain voters who need educating on social engagement. Do they really think they are going to win enough support to reverse Brexit by telling leave voters how thick they are??? Leaving the Eu might be an act of national self-harm but insulting their voters will only make them want brexit more. So Remainers my advice to you is starting living in the real world with real people rather than mixing with your own type at dinner parties bragging about which universities your children are at.

Totally agree with Matt. I voted remain in the referendum. I am not happy we are leaving the EU and would love a get out of jail free card on this one. What is guaranteed is that pro eu marches and rallys like this will only strengthen the hands of those who want to leave. The people of Wrexham voted to leave and they are not going to have their minds changed by a bunch of middle-class snobs who think they are intellectually better than the rest of us. If this pro eu lot want to make a difference then they should try to talking to real people rather than lecture them about how wrong their vote was.

Unfortunately Sam, Labour have a rotten track record with candidates for Llay. Take their last Llay councillor Terry Boland (who defected from Labour to become Independent). His attendance is dire and has been over several years.

OK, he may be ill, but he has still been claiming his £13300 allowance every year, even though he only turns up to meetings once in a blue moon.

Look forward to the release of nominations shortly. Can`t see Terry Boland putting his name forward for re-election with that attendance. If he does, then it will be the biggest cheek of all time.
