gogleddParticipantA friend of mine teaches there and I know they are incredibly proud of their Estyn report.
gogleddParticipantMy work takes me to lots of schools. I tend to arrive early by bicycle but leave when the school run is at its height, It just amazes me how inconsiderate and selfish some drivers can be.
gogleddParticipantThe most disappointing statistic is that 2/3 of registered voters didn’t vote – either they couldn’t be bothered or they could find any party to represent their views.
Of those that voted 1/4 voted for UKIP which means only 1/12 of registered voters chose UKIP – not exactly the mandate they seem to be claiming.
However UKIP are now part of the political make up of the country and that membership of the EU will be a general election topic. Lets hope we have a rational discourse – but I doubt it!
gogleddParticipantIts seems that UKIP have found popular policies that has caught the national zeitgeist – immigration and the EU – however in a general election they are going to have to explain far more of their ‘unknown’ policies that didn’t get an airing for the European election – not many know they are pro-fracking, that they would introduce policies to pay for your health service, they would abandon the minimum wage and take away many rights that we take for granted including those introduced from Europe. There is a lot wrong with the EU as it stands but there’s a lot good about it to. What we didn’t get was a rational discussion on the pros and cons.
gogleddParticipantFamily favourites are:
The Cross Foxes, Overton Bridge
Pant-yr-Ochain, Gresford
Eastern Sheriden, High St Wrexham
The Bridge, Caergwrle/HopeI have been to Anise to and thought the food was excellent.
gogleddParticipant“This building is of architectural and historic interest in terms of its design and use of a parabolic roof, and as an example of a post-war swimming pool. It also has rarity value as one of very few swimming pools constructed in the post-war period in Wales and is the only known example of this type of roof structure in Wales.”
If CADW can see that much shouldn’t that alone be a reason for listing?
Well it looks like the writing is on the wall for one of the few iconic building Wrexham has left. Can the public save this building? Do they want to?

I hope the Tour is as well attended as last year. It was a packed along the route.
I had a great 30 mile ride today round Holt and back through Banger OD and Sontley. Called in Town and it was really busy today. Bright Sunshine and a lovely cooling breeze. Every motorist I came across was great. Didn’t meet any with Bull Bars fitted.
I had a couple of good rides over the weekend. Saturday 36 miles down to the Dee then home via Hawarden. Sunday I rode the CTC Spring 50 (actually 52 miles) from Farndon out to Kinnerton in a big loop to Marford, back to Farndon then out to Tilston, Worthenbury Overton Bangor on Dee and return to Farndon before riding hope. Great Weather – I hope it lasts.
gogleddParticipantI think there’s a few people who need to get some perspective on this thread. Advocating that other road users harm another road user is unjustified and even if said ‘tongue in cheek’ in poor taste to say the least.
I have been knocked off a motorcycle and a bicycle and I can tell you its no fun. I am hoping that we can all share the road and act responsibly.
gogleddParticipantWhen I picked up my friend she told me that she was chatting with a mum who was with her teenage son. He was obviously extremely ill. They had and appointment to get the poor lad a bed and were still made to wait in A&E for hours, even though they had made an appointment.
As far as I am aware the current triage system just divided patients up into urgent, non-urgent or minors – I am not aware that people are advised to go to see their GP.
gogleddParticipantIts true that towns and cities bid to host a start or finish and perhaps Wrexham isn’t in the market to be a host town. As I understand it, the on route (Yodel) Sprint Hot Spots haven’t been decided as yet and perhaps this is an opportunity for the town.
If not then why not try to organise a day to encourage people to get their bikes out. Have a “Dr. Bike” event where people can blow the dust of the bike in their shed, bring it along to be services (if possible). Invite Sustrans, British Cycling, the Cycle Tourist Club, WCBC Road Safety team, Wales Tourist Board, cycle holiday providers (and others) to have stalls giving out advice and information, hold town centre cycling events including ‘learn to ride’ and ‘improve your road skills’. I don’t think this would cost a fortune and would be a means of attracting people into the town to watch the race pass through.
