The council have indicated that they will open a new building costing £11 million and close both sites, but they don`t mention when it will be opened, don`t be surprised if the new place never gets built, personally i would say the two sites have planned uses, plas madoc i would guess more sheltered housing and a prime piece of land in the center of wrexham complete with carpark and possibly the land from the police station, if we didnt already have the usual suspects i would have said one of them, but we have not got a waitrose, well yet. So don`t be surprised if a large store gets built there.

Waitrose in Wrexham? No chance – wrong demographic. Also is there really such a thing as “prime piece of land” in Wrexham.

How come Wrexham Council spends money that benefits the profits of private business when services are being cut.
    1. Car park signs — yes the Council will say they had a grant but the reality is that they are sign posting drivers to private car parks such as Eagles Meadow at a time when they have increased the price of parking in their own car parks. Can anyone please explain the logic?
    2. Bus station – yes local people benefit but it is the private bus operators who use the Bus Station that benefit the most. Other businesses that sell services have to pay rent and rates yet this doesn’t occur for the bus operators!
    3. Electronic Bus signs — massive investment but ceased to operate within 18 months.
    4. Why pay for all Council Members to attend an Executive meeting when they have no chance of changing any proposals. Waste of time having 30 plus Councilors in a room with no one listening to them!!
    5. What is the point of having rows of highly paid officials at an Executive meeting listening and not participating- there are usually 20 present on an average of £25 an hour for 3 hours– £1500 of wasted time when they should be doing proper work! At all the Scrutiny meetings as well and their is probably about £2500 a week over £1 million a year for people to sit doing nothing.

Come on decision makers of Wrexham start looking closely at how you work if you want to see some cost savings.

20 people on £48k a year at every scrutiny meeting? If thats true why are they all their?

This is not about ‘knocking’, this is about giving our kids the best start in life, and about looking after our parents as they get older.

Every year that a child wastes in their education, disadvantages them considerably in work. Our parents have paid for the infrastructure and community that we have in Wrexham today, we have a duty to look after it for them to enjoy without worry.

WCBC is reacting, not setting out and funding 15 to 20 years best education for children, and not getting to grips with say 40 years of quality retirement.

The world has changed, and as a community we need clear social and economic plans looking forward decades, and looking after what we have from the past as a part of our plans for the future. At present, we do not have this.

40 years of quality retirement? I’ll be 106! Thanks in advance kids – can’t wait. 55% of Council spending already goes on Education and adult social services. Not sure if that is a lot or not.

It is frightening to see the number of failings that are being discussed in these forums …why do they not appear as heavily debated items in the reports and minutes of WCBC?

An area is defined by its leadership, and Wrexham is to the world the place that WCBC makes it through its behaviour and policies.

Having read and contributed to these forums for a year now, it is shocking that we don’t appear to be looking forward as a town, and the only debate or leadership from the Council is ‘cuts’.

Industry had to completely recast its plans in 2008, and Wrexham surely needs to start with a blank canvass, and plan to operate in a very different way. Other local authorities throughout the UK are achieving this!

While concentration is being focused on solar panels, prisons, selling public land for shopping centres …the proper economy is not getting attention. And if such a narrow focus is being applied there, it is probably true of education and social care. WCBC needs to change its game, and start to debate transparently in its public meetings, how to change its ways from past mistakes, and how to do things differently and with more prosperity for the future.

Closing one library simply takes away a comfortable place for local people, perhaps those who are retired and paid for those libraries in the first place. It’s a real society we want, not short term interventions that create headlines but die off after a few years.

Not sure what your point is TBH

Interesting piece on Radio 4 tonight about HMP Oakwood.
BBC Radio 4 – The Report, Oakwood Prison

Mostly about the inner workings of the prison and nothing negative about the impact on the local area. However, one interesting stat was that an amulance is called approx every day to the prison as they don’t have 24 hr healthcare. So that must have an impact on already overstretched local ambulance trust.

Looking across at Waterworld from the Tesco roundabout it is an iconic design. Have the Council looked at other uses for the building?

Is there anything or anyone that ISN’T “iconic” these days. Journos are incapable of writing anything without describing something or someone as bloody iconic. The Waterworld roof is unusual is all.
