It isn’t the easiest thing for mums to catch 3 buses to drop their children off at school before going on to start work at 9.00am. Have you noticed that it is mostly mums? Why don’t more dads do the school run? At 3.00pm the mums are also probably at the same time trying to fit in picking up something for tea, popping in to see Nan, take the dog for a walk, drop little Jimmy off at football practice, help with home work & making sure there is a clean PE kit ready for the next day. Most of the men I know aren’t too good at multitasking.

I am but we haven’t got a dog so it’s easy for me I guess.

Love It :):) but unfortunately very true, the one other thing not mentioned is the people who live by these schools who struggle to get out of their own drives at these times :rolleyes:

Must be a nightmare that. You’ve carefully considered where to buy a house, you sign the contract, move in and suddenly find out there’s a school next door. Bummer.

Can I just save the Council some bother on one point and say that I do not – I DO NOT – want any of my money spent “consulting” with 10% of people in a language that is neither English or Welsh. I don’t see why we should pay for services in any other language never mind “consultation”. And haven’t we got this a**e about face? isn’t the 0.5% a reflection of the fact that people just can’t be bothered with local politics rather than a failure to “consult”? What’s the turnout in a local election? 20%? How many people could name their councillor? That’s not due to a communication issue – it’s because people get on with their lives and frankly don’t care. It’s their choice. We don’t need a nanny state intefering in private decisions. personally I throw every piece of unsolicited political mail straight in the recycling. Just doing my bit for the environment.

“perhaps everyone should adopt someone they think is obese and every time they are seen eating fatty/unhealthy foods should be permitted to take it off them!! “

I offered to adopt Mrs Ferret. There won’t be any more little ferrets for the forseeable future.

It’s a pity that Wrexham is only part of the through route and not a time stage as that makes a massive difference to the number of visitors. There is unlikely to be many extra visitors to town to see the race as the real fans will go to a time session spectator stage. For those of us not real fans but curious may hang around waiting to see the riders but one minute later they will have all gone.

The Tour of Britain only has one time trial stage (London) and the first city centre show stage (Liverpool). With the best will in the world Wrexham can’t really compete with those cities – we just don’t have the scale. As our thinly diguised Leeds fan friend says there are costs involved in a start/finish even if it fitted the schedule – and remember the fuss over the money spent on the Olympic torch event. Listen, it’s not going to have a massive impact but the police do a pretty good job of the rolling closed road. One of the main arguments for saving Plas Madoc is health & fitness and what other sport is going to bring world-class athletes to Wrexham? A day off for all the boys and girls I say.

Interesting idea. I do think that it is vital for the Council to retain the strategic management of the Markets because it needs to adopt policies to promote Tourism, etc. Once it was determined that the Town centre was one of the Hubs in Wrexham’s Marketing strategy, it was clear that it was necessary for the Council to also texture its Markets to best serve these kinds of objectives. Personally, I think that the authority should try and move to distinct identities for each Market and, as you argue, allow autonomy over day by day matters

You there at the back – yes you Alunh. Write out 100 times “I will not use “texture” as a verb.” Carry on like that my boy and you’ll end up in consultancy. Is that what you want? Harumph.

I think it’s great but I very much doubt many on here will agree. Last year the general tone was negative due to perceived damage to local businesses and some minor traffic disruption. They don’t pay road tax you know.

I wonder how many staff and managers are using the old Groves site for free parking rather than paying in a car park. This is effectively a free car park paid for by ratepayers– Why should we all pay for this free perk!

I went past today and had a look but it seemed that the site was sealed off. There were 2 cars parked outside the old entranceway on Park Avenue but I couldn’t tell just by looking at them whether they belonged to Council employees. I did see a bike in the bike rack outside the Guildhall. No prizes for guessing who the owner probably worked for.
