de ddwyrainParticipantEven if for whatever reason it would be impractical to open up the Gwenfro (I don’t know, people getting thrown in?), I wonder if there’s a way of still making the river visible from street level by building over the opening, but incorporating some sort of window into the building, like they do sometimes when they find the remains of old buildings below street level, or like for the Clerk’s Well in London?
I suppose it’ll never happen, but I’d quite like to see a little reminder that Wrexham has a river a bit closer to the Town Centre.
Realistically, I suppose something like Aldi or Travelodge is only too plausible. The only thing is that neither Aldi nor Travelodge would qualify as a multi-use site, so theoretically you’d need something else there as well (and there is other site over the road – the site of the King’s Arms, is that right?).
de ddwyrainParticipantYou forgot to mention the building of thousands of new homes to fill in the empty space between Wrexham and Chester and a huge new retail park at Rossett. The new city can be called ‘Dee Valley Gateway’.
de ddwyrainParticipantWhen visiting Wrexham for the first time, I remember that it was on Bank Street that I thought to myself ‘I really like this town’.
de ddwyrainParticipantI agree that it would be very pleasant for there to be a place where you can sit under the roofs of the covered markets and drink a cup of coffee or even have something to eat. At the same time, I think having more than one covered market in the town centre is an advantage and a unique selling point for Wrexham. Walking from market to market, and through the interconnected shopping arcades and streets like Bank Street is one of the things I found most appealing about the town centre.
de ddwyrainParticipantAm going to answer this under a new thread on “introductions”

I use the lille and brussels airports triangle (and the rail network in between) quite frequently.
Which institution? Where do you live in brussels? Do you speak both of the belgium tongues? Perhaps you could give an account about the zone (and not the city centre) that you live in hat has the same level of complexity as your account of wrexham? Would love to explore the other areas of the city rather than the city centre, the railway stations and the airports.
I could certainly give you a few pointers about other parts of Brussels to visit, but it would be going way off topic here. Maybe I could post something in the ‘take a break’ or ‘introductions’ section…

I have yet to visit Belgium. My holiday destinations are predictable. The Greek Islands, Spanish Islands or Canaries. I have just realised I am an island lover! :)
Well, Belgium would certainly be a different kind of holiday, but there’s still quite a few interesting places to see…

Where? and what do you do there?
I work for the European institutions, albeit in a fairly lowly capacity.
de ddwyrainParticipantBrussels…
de ddwyrainParticipantThanks. I did quite a lot of research before arriving (chiefly on this site and google maps).
The place has captured my imagination, so doing the research was effortless. The passion shown in the discussions on this forum about the future of the town make me want to get involved in this project too. I just have to think about how to achieve it.
