I think it laughable that all of this fuss is made over guildhall parking and NOBODY has mentioned free staff parking at Crown Buildings where staff who have moved buildings still retain passes.
The simple solution is to let managers and Councillors park there and open up the guildhall to short stay parking at a higher rate.
For the purists, take both car parks away from council use and show me the money….
Answers on a postcard or on the back of a sealed down envelope to the guildhall please

I have complained about Councillor and Managers free parking. Why if they decide to pay, would it show me up? Am I not allowed to constructively criticize? You come across as a Council bullyboy Councillor X.
Dear Sir I am not Cllr Apsley or Clr Pritchard!
£50,000 income from opening part of the Guildhall car park daily, would be extra income for no initial outlay. How difficult can it be to make such a decision ?
Perhaps that is what will be decided today in the Difficult Decisions outcome.

If the Councillors and top Managers decide to give up their car parking spaces then good for them it will show up everyone who has complained here about them. If it happens i hope that the people who wanted this will pour praise on them and after a year print how much they have saved the Council.

Mainly I think that councillors should not be given preferential treatment in any way over the rest of us plebs, and that they should be seen to be subject to the same rules as us, and that they should be eager to demonstrate how they are on a par with the general public.

Generally Councillors do a good job so what is wrong with them parking for free? They do not get paid much and you could not expect them to pay to come to work.
So what if they go shopping or to the pub? They are supporting local businesses and the shopkeepers shoppers the Monday market landlords and people in the pub get to meet a Councillor and to talk to them.
Maybe make top managers pay a small fee of 50p to park and then there is some income and it will stop all of the people moaning. I think jealousy plays a big part in this. They have something that other people want.

I presume the car park behind the Guildhall which is barrier operated on weekdays and is used only for Council staff, will still be only available to Council staff. The only difference will be they will now have to pay. No such thing as not being able to park.
No, it will still be free for top officials and public barred until the weekend. The charges for the weekend are-
Saturday and Sunday only
63 spaces / 4 disabled
0 – 1 hour – £1.00
1 – 3 hours – £1.80

They would only make a few thousand pounds if they had it open to the public in the week. I think it is a small price to pay.

ALSO I think that the comment by sportsboy is not true
“Using the car park to carry out duties is one thing but that privilege is abused by councillors just nipping in to town or even the Welsh pub ( Saith Seren ) FACT .”
A free car parking space is not a ‘tool of the trade’ that is required for someone to fulfill their job so unsure what Councillor X is referring to.
My point is that parking has been reviewed plenty of times and top Managers and Councillors have kept their free parking while lower paid staff have had free parking removed or they have been moved to car parks in Crescent Road or Whitegate because they do not need to park close to where they work.

What if a Councillor or Manager cannot park? They would be unable to attend meetings in time. Think about what happened in December. All car park places had gone very quickly and people could not park. If this happened to a Councillor then there would be chaos and an investigation.

Free parking for the top men and women makes sense even if it means we have to cut other services or charge for parking in country parks and places like that.
Yet again Councillors retain their free parking in their exclusive car park,at the expense of now charging disabled badge holders. This obvious income source has been ignored for over ten years. Councillors obviously find this decision, impossible as opposed to difficult !
Without free parking they would not be able to do their duties so nobody should have an issue with Councillors or top Management being given free parking outside of their place of work.
I am totally behind our MP’s campaign to highlight empty properties in Wrexham. We raised this about three years ago and ,forgive me , the statements from ” leading Councillors” have an eerily familiar ring about them. As we face a cold snap and a spike in homelessness it is a growing scandal that there is so little change.
As to ” taking enforcement action. ” that is precisely what myself and the community council have been asking for years on an empty site but all we got from WCBC was excuse and delay.
Which leading Councillors are these?

Many Councillors do work hard, others, not so hard.

Council staff have an annual review to see if they deserve a pay increase so would it not be fair to have a similar scheme for Councillors?

Those who have turned up at meetings and can prove they have made an impact get the money but the bad ones do not.

If the Travellers set up home on the Groves site along with the homeless, would they also be allowed to remain?
