I hate to Labour a point but without designated parking where would Councillors and delegates have parked? Drive around for hours to look for a place to park or put them by the Bingo hall and make them walk in the rain?
I agree with jimbow, if there is a council meeting planned then cordon off some spaces at least then they can guarantee a place close to the Guildhall. Cost of parking could be claimed back as an expense if required upon receipt of tickets, times could then be checked against the meetings.
I can see your point but you cannot cordon off for Top Management because you do not know who will be in and Councillors need to come in to drop off documents and see people.

You cannot expect them to claim money back because of the tax involved so that would be unfair. They already save the Council a lot of money by using iPads instead of photostats so if they get a parking perk once every blue or blood red moon then so be it.

We are talking about people WE voted for so WE should look after them,

Most towns and city have adequate parking or park and rides in which case free parking is not an issue but Wrexham does not which is why top managers and Councillors NEED to be able to park at ANY time.
Posts here have said that Councillors park to do shopping or to go to the pub but they also come in for meetings. The parking department do not ask them why they are there because they are trusted officials so this is why they need permanent parking in a designated car park.
if you let ordinary people park there then Councillors and Top Managers may not be able to come into work.

The acting Chief Executive Officer says he is going to review this and just because he gets his own parking space does not mean that he will not be fair.

Let the people who do the sums decide on who has what.

Before reading this topic I had no intention of going to Ty Pawb when it opens but now I think I might!

Hahahahah. That’s what I’m convinced happened with the thread(s) on free car parking for councillors!
Free parking is not a privilege, its a necessity otherwise there would be chaos at half empty meetings.

Staff parking is nothing compared to the money spent on the Groves and the White Elephant arts exhibition centre.

It is not necessary for the public to know whether I am joking or whether I am serious, just as it is not necessary for me to know it myself.
Why does being good at your job automatically mean you deserve a perk. With that reasoning there are millions of people in the country who deserve a perk.
The thermometer of success is merely the jealousy of the malcontents.

In the news …… Car parking charges in Flintshire could soon go up as the council tries to raise almost half a million pounds.
Flintshire Council says it currently spends more on managing its car parks than it makes from fees.
Now the council wants to hike the cost of parking, in a bid to raise about £500,000 to cover the expense of running the car parks.
Any increase would come into force in April. All options will be looked at before a decision is made.

If Wrexham raised charges again then this would cover the shortfall of the public not being allowed to use the car parks at the Guildhall and Lambpit Street.
This would mean Top Managers and Councillors can keep their spaces and another difficult decision is solved.

These people are either elected by Wrexham people because we believe in them or put in a position of power because they are good at their jobs and DO deserve some sort of perk.

If the Councillors and top management were moved to the staff car par at crown buildings or to the White Elephant Art Centre and their car park was a pay and display, how much could be saved?
Councillor X. There are 99 car parking spaces in the Crown Buildings car park. If only 80 of those were utilised at £2.50 per all day by Council staff, would bring in £52k per year.
Such a pity nobody had the capacity to throw Crown Buildings into the equation if this is the case.

If I can look at this another way and I know I will get called a wind up merchant AGAIN for this BUT if SOME Council Staff get FREE parking at locations such as Crown, Ruthin Road, Grosvenor Road and the Industrial Estate, why shouldn’t EVERY staff member get free parking?
To take it off Top Managers and Councillors when others get it for nothing is wrong.

You either make EVERYONE pay or NOBODY pay if you want true equality.

Do women still get free proximity parking at the Council?
Using the car park to carry out duties is one thing but that privilege is abused by councillors just nipping in to town or even the Welsh pub ( Saith Seren ) FACT .
