Yes it would be better on the ground floor, probably at the back of the store so people have to walk though pas the magazines and stationary to get to the counter. I hope that’s what they do once the consultation process is finished.

However even a post office on the first floor with a modern lift and staircase is better than no post office all.
We have to accept that as smiths already runs 107 post office branches from it’s stores already and is looking to increase that number that this is inevitable.
If Wrexham didn’t have a branch of smiths in to town center for the post office to move to then almost certainly it would be lost altogether.

    Think of the positives here.
There will still be a crown post office in the middle of Wrexham whereas many small towns have lost their post offices over the last few year. Plus WH Smiths will have a nice new refit which will look nice.

So hopefully we will have a branch of smiths on our high street for the foreseeable future despite claims they will be the next chain store to move out of town or to eagles meadow.
Also with a bit of luck the opening hours for the post office will be longer as well matching W H Smiths opening hours.

There have been many new shops and business which have opened up in the Wrexham area over the last year bringing many well needed jobs to the area; particularly on Wrexham industrial estate since the new road was built. Unfortunately very few of these are in the town center.

Not everything in wrexham is doom and gloom, there are many positives to be had; however Wrexham is quickly becoming like a doughnut, as it has nothing but an empty whole in the middle.

It’s sad to see another small independent retailer close it’s doors in the town center.

I strongly doubt that will happen as business rate are one of the most reliable sources of income for central government. Remember even if a building is empty the landlord has to pay the business rate on the building.
There is no intensive for government to reduce the number of empty shops because they will get paid anyway!

The only difference is that the landlord will not be able to claim small business rate relief and so will have to pay more tax then the tenant business.

This is of course assuming the businesses was eligible for small business rate relief.

Allan has a very good point here.
I think we would all like a fancy arts center if it cost nothing at all. But economics does not work like that.
Very few people seam to be able to connect public (council) expenditure with collected of (local) tax revenue.

He’s completely right in thinking that a drop in business rates would result in an increase of retailers moving back to the town center.
And when I say move that’s what they have done, moved elsewhere, along with the jobs and services they offer.

There is a real lack of places in Wrexham town center to practice. You would think with all the empty building there would be somewhere.

I do wonder if Wrexham council will even be around in time for the center to open.
With detailed plans for a merger with Flintshire council at lot of the people involved with this project may not around when and if it come to fruition.
